knight d | Is this a good health insurance for my mom? |
My mom is 58 years old and lives in California.
I needed a plan where if there's any hospital bills or chemotherapy that needs to be done and it exceeds $100,000......I want the insurance company to pay for everything.
https://www.healthinsurance.com/hi/web/health/ind/PlanDetails.aspx
Also, can an insurance company suddenly cut someone if they are really sick and in the process of recovery?
Does anyone know of a better health plan I should get for her?
Thanks so much in advance. |

OK, once a health insurance company gives her a policy, AS LONG AS SHE DIDNT LIE ON THE APPLICATION, they have to keep her insured, unless she stops making the payments.
If she already needs chemo, it's too late to buy private health insurance.
The website you referenced, is for an AGENT. Likely, they're either going to harvest your info and sell it as a lead, or they'll sell you someone else's policy.
It's normal to see a $1,000,000 lifetime maximum benefit.
I'd strongly refer you to a LOCAL AGENT to discuss plans. But you must realize, at her age, if she's healthy, this is going to be EXPENSIVE - maybe $1000 a month. And if she's not healthy, she's not going to get a policy. |

Hello Knight,
The website you have above isn't for a carrier, it's for a broker who sells several different carrier's health insurance. There is nothing wrong with going through a broker, and they can provide you with feedback and assistance through the application process.
Most PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) health plans will have a percentage of cost that your mom must pay and then a percentage that they will pay (for example your mom will pay 20% and the healthplan will pay 80% etc) and there once your mom has reached her OOPM (Out -of-pocket-maximum) the health plan will then pay 100%. The out of pocket maximum's differ from plan to plan. Keep in mind that the higher the out of pocket maximum on the plan, the lower the monthly premium will likely be.
In addition to the OOPM on a plan, there is also going to be a Maximum Lifetime Benefit, which is the maximum dollar amount that your mom's plan will pay in her entire life time. Any PPO plan will have a maximum lifetime benefit of anywhere from 2 million to 6 million dollars. Check the plan for what the maximum lifetime benefit is. Once that maximum is met, the plan will stop paying for anything. Most people do not meet their maximum lifetime benefit.
HMO plans in California do not have a Maximum lifetime benefit, however they are also much higher in cost of monthly premium than a PPO plan. Keep that in mind while you do your research.
Good luck in your search and let me know if you have any other questions
Thanks!

No, insurance companies can't cut you for being sick. That's what the insurance is for. |
