Just laid off. Does my insurance with the company end the same day or do I have 30 days from lay off.?

This info should be given to you by your employer. It is up to them how long they continue to pay for your health insurance.

If your employer has at least 20 full-time employees, and the business is not closing it's doors, they are required to offer you COBRA coverage. You will be responsible for paying the full premium (including the portion your employer may have paid while you were employed with them) plus up to 2% for administrative costs. This coverage can extend your insurance up to 18 additional months, unless you become totally disabled (according to the Federal guidelines for disability) during this time, which would give you an additional 11 months of coverage.

Depends on your company policy. It can end the very same day or 30 days from the last day you work, Either way, they will still over you COBRA.

If you're talking about health/dental or whatever you have 30 days to fill out the COBRA paperwork where you can keep your benefits for up to 18 months for a monthly cost, that you pay out of pocket. Talk to the HR department at your former job to get the papers, and if you don't want to use COBRA, you should still talk to the HR department to find out for sure when your benefits expire. In most cases, your insurance companies will send you notice of termination, but I'd check to be sure.

Katie
Your employer (of former employer) has the choice--they can terminate your insurance whenever they want to pretty much once you are laid off. It can be the same day, or a month later...or they can give you 3 months...etc.

Regardless of how long they give you, you can elect COBRA to extend your coverage for up to 36 months, and pay the premiums yourself.

Depends on the company's plan. As a general rule, if your plan started on the first day of the month, your coverage ends on the last day of the month. If you started sometime in the the middle of a month, it ends on the date of termination.

Assuming greater than 20 employees, COBRA must be offered. They have 14 days to send the letter. You have 60 days to respond and additional 45 days to make the first payment. However, the first payment due is the total premium to date.

You need to dig out your employee manual, it will give you all the options

Joseph C
It doesn't end abrubtly. You should be able to acquire "COBRA" coverage. Ask you HR.
