L*D | Land of leather Insurance? I've just put a deposit down on a sofa and they suggested to take the insurance for |
an extra £159 i think it was, i included it as he said it covers rips, accidental spillages, ciggarette burns, everything. Then i told my mate about it who said it was a scam more or less as they neva pay out or replace anything.
Anyone used the insurance. Is it worth taking or shall i take it off? Additional Details I kno he was only pushing it for commision. But if it is covered for 5 yrs then it might be worn it with 2 young kids that like ruining everything!
My only issue does it actually pay out? |

Hi Kelly, I used to work for Land of Leather and yes customers did have their furniture fixed or replaced. My customers were anyway, I always made sure I followed up my sales but you will find alot of sales people who dont want to know you after they get your money, its simple to make a claim, once something happens your sofa you ring the no on your insurance docket, they will send out a form for you to fill in detailing accident etc and they will arrange for an engineer to call out, in most cases it can be fixed there and then if its more severe they will have to take the sofa away (very rarely happens) if it cannot be fixed the engineer will fill out a form stating this and leave it with the store who will check stock and get the replacement sent out to you. (this is how it should happen and did in my store)
You WILL NOT be covered by pet rips etc (your cats claws etc)
If you spill something on your sofa, it will only be the spill cleaned not the whole sofa eg you spill coke on your 2 seater, the guy will call out and take the spill out which might leave that part cleaner than the rest of the sofa. The whole 2 seater will not be cleaned. This REALLY annoyed me as it happened me and I was left with a clean spot while the rest of my seat looked grubby
The commission made on warranties is amazing so yes they will definately try to get you to take it, I worked only 4 days a week and would come home with about £2500 AFTER TAX and most of that was down to warranties and colour change.
I would DEFINATELY check out your house insurance before you get this cover as you could be paying for something your house insurance already covers
Its totally up to you and YOU CAN cancel it before you get the suite delivered
Anything else feel free to email me

Merchandise insurance is just another way for the salesperson to make a commission and the business to make money. Most customers never need to use the insurance. Studies have shown that it is better to take the risk of damage you may have to pay for than to pay for the insurance.
What is the chance you are going to have a repair for over 159 pounds in the next year or two? |

Could not agree more with previous answers... 159 is ridiculous.... a huge chunk of that will go straight in the sales-mans pocket as commission, another chunk to 'land of leather' etc.
You'll get the same coverage for a fraction of the price on your contents insurance with 'accidental damage' cover. 159 will go a LONG way towards insuring ALL of your possessions not just the sofa.
Don't do it |

Please do not take insurance out.
I posted a question yesterday regarding this.
We bought our sofa from SCS and were promised the earth with our insurance. On the weekend we had a fire and the sofa is covered in soot and the fire brigade had to break into our house through the window to rescue us, and the leather is ingrained with shards of glass.
Guess what? We're not covered because it wasnt myself or my husband that broke the window.
Its always some excuse not to pay out, and I wouldnt bother wasting your money. |

bluerose is right. When the dealers try to sell you extended warrantys and insurance and that sort of stuff it is just
wasted money. they make about 150% on the sale of that
stuff and it is very hard to collect on it if you do make a
claim. You would be better off putting the money in a bank account for a year and collect the interest. |

avoid it but get extra cover on your household, it be cheaper and more liekly to payout,
the saleman will want extra commition which you shoulnt give him |

How much is the sofa costing you?
£159 in itself seems a fair chunk towards a new sofa if disaster was to strike. |

If you have accidental cover on your home insurance then you do not need this insurance. |

dont do it--if u look at ur paperwork it will probly say it has a 5 year factory warranty-and the store has one year. if u send copy ur receipt to company n keep all paper work/tags u can get burn holes fixed for 10$. most company's have this. id drop it. i bought a washer n dryer n my mom payed for insurance-after 4 years it was done--3 days later my dryer broke. they knew when it was gonna go--he laughed n said it happens all the time but the guy made 200$ from me getting it. |
