At the time of the underwriting, the underwriter gathers all the facts from the life insurance application and the medical physician, and maybe from the agent. The underwriter makes the final decisions on whether you qualify for life insurance and if you do qualify, what rate you should get.
Making long story short, yes your family will be covered in the event of your death. |

I am reading that you are paying for a non-preferred tobacco rate policy? Are you reading this information from the printed material that is on your policy? If so, I am correct and your policy is already a smoker rate. If not, then you have a preferred non-tobacco rate. Insurance companies now enclose a copy of the actual application with the policy when it is issued to keep everyone honest including the agent. Although most people never do, you are encouraged to look over the policy to insure everything is correct as stated. Take a look at the health questions particularly the tobacco one to see how it was answered. Insurers ask If you have used tobacco of any kind during the past 12, 24 or 36 months depending on the amount of insurance being applied for. If you answered honestly, then you don't have anything to be concerned about. If you find anything that doesn't look right to you on the tobacco question, contact your agent or the company directly and get this corrected. You are better off paying 10.00-15.00 more a month to smoke than having your beneficiary go through the hassle if you die before the incontestability period because the insurer will contest your claim by sending for all of your medical records, etc. and they will find out. The insurance company could reduce the amount they pay to your beneficiary to how much insurance the premium you were paying would have purchased for a tobacco rate. Hope this information is helpful to you. |

You can have one or the other- nonpreferred OR smoking.
If nonpreferred, nonsmoking and you have started smoking AFTER two years of owning the policy the company WILL pay the full death benefit. You were asked questions based on what was going on and what you were doing at that moment in time. You may have been asked if you planned to use tobacco in the future, with a negative answer, you good. A positive answer would have put you into the smoker category with higher premiums.
I answered the smoker policy in that last sentence. You MIGHT have a problem if you began smoking inside two years of getting the policy. The company will investigate and make a final determination. |

if you die, they will do a test and if they find out you were a smoker, they policy will not pay off since you violated the terms of the contract |

You got a non smoking policy because at the time you didn't smoke.. so if you died and they found out you started smoking no problem you get the money. But if you let the policy lapse and you still smoke your rates will go up if try to get life ins again. I hope you have term life. That is the most beneficial policy to have. If you have whole life consider switching and just invest seperately in mutual funds. |

in that case if the cause of the death was from smoking or related to smoking then it will be canceled but the cause was not and the knwe that you were somking then they u will cut some of the insurance sum as they will take it as the instalments for a smoker to cover
