I don't know the whole story here. Did your grandfather died before your mom? If so, then there's good chance that your mom got the insurance claim. So there will be nothing to claim.
If your mom died before your grandfather died, then the money would go to your mom's estate. From there, the court will decide on who should get what.

You didn't say whether your Grandfather was still alive or not. Since you are asking about the money, I assume your Grandfather has passed and your Mom hadn't collected the money yet. If that is the case, the money would go to you. If he is still alive, he can change the beneficiary at any time. If he doesn't change it, the money would go to you. |

On a life insurance policy there is a primary beneficiary which it sounds like it was your mother. Since she has passed, and if your grandfather doesn't change his beneficiaries before he passes the money will go to the contingent (2nd) beneficiary. If there is no contingent beneficiary the money goes into your grandfathers estate |

As the only living heir to that money it should go to you unless there is a second beneficiary on the life insurance, get you a lawyer hun. |

It goes to your mother's estate, unless your grandfather outlived her, and listed a contingency beneficiary.
Your mother's estate will be passed along according to her will, and if she didn't have one, it will have to go through probate court. If she's unmarried/widowed, then likely as her only child you'll inheirit her entire estate. If she's married, depending on which state you are in, her spouse could. |

Is your grandfather still alive? If not, you'll need to get a hold of the policy and see if there was a per stirpes clause in it, meaning that any money mom inherited would go to her next in bloodline. If not, see if there was a contingent bennie on the contract. |
