Nikki | Life insurance for my mother..please help...? |
I have recently experienced several deaths to people very close to me. It has made me a little on edge. Now, my mom is a heavy smoke, 5'4" 245lbs and 53 years.. I went online to look into life insurance for her, the few that called me back denied my application because of her weight and and excessive smoking. I really need life insurance and I know I should lie but it is starting to frustrate me. Please if any suggestions I would appreciate it. No rude comments please. |

RFTM: sounds like your totally missing the point of this question. I doubt this has to do with profit, but more to do with having the resources to properly take care of her mothers passing away. I think it's a very responsible thing that this person is doing and after experiencing several other deaths it doesn't suprose me at all that someone would want to make sure the rest of thier family is taken care of. It's unfortunate that you have such a negative outlook on life that you see this as an attempt for someone to purely profit from this.
Anyway, in a case where there are potential health risks, you should never shop online (shopping online for insurance in general is never the best way to do it...). You should be talking to an insurance borker in your area. Insurance borkers have access to multiple companies and will be able to find a company that might look at the application.
When you get quotes online they typically only offer quotes on Prefered Plus (people that have barely had a cold or flu their whole life), Prefered (above average health) or Standard rates, which means people with health risks are ussually declined right away. There are TONS of other companies available that will offer substandard insurance polices though.
They will be expensive, but they are available. And worst case, you can look at a gauranteed issue policy which doesn't even look at any medical underwriting at all. Again, very expensive, but better than nothing.
Contact a lisensed insurance borker in your area and they will be able to offer you various solutions. Make sure the broker has access to both term and whole life products though so you can make sure you are actually looking at ALL your options rather than just a few. |

It's going to be hard to find and it's going to be VERY expensive. It's probably better to bank what you would pay in premiums. Also, Mom would have to take a physical. She's probably not willing. |

She should be able to get a graded policy at $25,000 around $100/month. Graded meaning it doesn't pay the full face until after 3 years. |

Here's some ideas:
You may want to try Stonebridge Life - they offer a guaranteed acceptance life insurance policy for people age 45-75; however, the coverage is limited the first 1-2 years. And, the amount of coverage available may only be $20,000. The premiums will probably be a lot.
Another option may be Globe Life Insurance. They offer coverage for people age 78 and under with no medical exam.
I think Colonial Penn also offers a guaranteed approval life insurance plan.
You may want to try a life insurance agent in your area through the yellow pages. Tell the agent your situation with your mom, and see if the agent has a contract with an insurance company that may offer coverage for your mother.
I hope that helps! Best of luck to you and your mom. |

Well, lying isn't going to help, because that can allow the company to decline to pay out.
If you're looking for low rates, that's not going to happen. She's particularly unhealthy. If money is no object, though, you can insure anyone. Depending on how much coverage you want, it could be hundreds a month for her, or even more.
You need to contact a high risk life broker in your area. Worst case, it might cost $110,000 for $100,000 in coverage. I strongly suspect you're looking for $100,000 of coverage for $100 a month - which isn't realistic with what you're describing. Insurance premiums to payouts, are the "odds" on her death. The odds will ALWAYS favor the house - the insurance company. |

She doesn't sound like a very likely candidate for life insurance. Even if you could find a company willing to write a policy for her, it sounds like, given her age and health, that the premiums would be outrageously expensive.
Face it, not everyone is insurable. It sounds like your mom is one of those people who isn't.
(And it's a little sad that, faced with the reality that your mom isn't taking care of herself and might not be around much longer, that you're only thinking of a way that you might get some money when she passes. Maybe you should try to get her to quit smoking and start going for walks with you instead!) |
