Life insurance question.?
can your family collect it if someone commits suicide. for instance, when i shoot myself in the head and die, will my family get anything for it? honest answers only.

I'm quite surprised at how many people have answered "absolutely not" to this question. Actually, most policies have a two year suicide exclusion. After the two years, the benefit will be paid out. Refer to your policy. There should say something about suicide in the exclusions.

Most policies have a 2-year suicide exclusion.

In my experience in selling life insurance it depends on your policy. Most policies have exclusion period of 2 years. What that means is if you commit suicide in the first 2 years of having they will not pay it out. Different companies have different exclusions to read your policy details.

Also, from my experience, any time there is a death claim an investigation is done and they collect evidence that it is a legitimate claim and not an act of fraud or illegal activities. This is just something to put out there, but if you are planning on committing suicide they may investigate it and if they find evidence that you did it to collect insurance for your family (for example if they read this thread or something similar), I can almost guarantee you that the claim will be declined as that would be an act of fraud. If you are serious about this make sure you read your policy and also, please make sure that you seek councilling...no matter how bad it is, I'm fairly certain that suicide is not the answer....

It really depends on your state of mind when you purchase the policy. It you have attempted suicide in the past or are being treated for suicidal thoughts, the policy will not be issued. If, however, the policy is issued, almost every state has a two year suicide exclusion. That means that after the policy has been in force for two years, they will pay your beneficiary if you commit suicide.

What concerns me the most about your question, however, is that you say "when" not "if" I shoot myself in the head. PLEASE, if you are thinking of hurting yourself, see someone for help. Call the suicide help line or go see a psychologist or psychiatrist. Your family wants you MUCH, MUCH more than they want your life insurance proceeds. I know it is hard, but try to think of how it would impact your family. I've seen surviving family members suffer for the rest of their lives because a loved one took their own life. Again, PLEASE talk to someone that can listen to you and help you get through whatever is bothering you.

IT DEPENDS ON THE POLICY AND HOW LONG YOU HAVE HAD IT

Eve
No they won't. Imagine the line up of sick people willing to opt out that way.

Good try though.

Then again, I suppose if you fork out enough money, anything is possible. (j/k - although the very rich seem to have enough money for good lawyers who can always wangle (b/s) their way out of anything for you).

Certainly not!
We in the life insurance trade have been faced with this scam many times, this is why we have introduced the new micro dot system on all our policies, it clearly states that if any one dies (from whatever cause) then the policy holder is held responsible unless the party of the third party can prove beyond all doubt that the first party of the the second parties forth wife was born on the planet Zog, in which case you will allow a full interplanetary investigation!
It's all there in the small print!

ROMMEL
You can't claim insurance from suicide death(s). Its absolutely NOT.Any life death(s) are investigated, so this kind of death are againts the POLICY.Check your policy and that will help you answer question.
