i've often wondered about them myself. Personally I think that the fact that they market so much via mail is telling that they may not be as good as they claim.

From working experience, sometimes it takes close to a year to get all the paperwork processed with insurance companies for claims. They are more than happy to take your money, but real slow about paying it out.

I would continue to assist them in processing the paperwork, and in the meantime check them out with the better business bureau. Also you may look into speaking with an attorney. In the yellow pages some of them will offer free cosultations that usually last from 15 to 30 minutes. Have copies of all papers and have a list of questions ready. You may want to make appts with more than one attorney because once you get an answer it usually causes you to have 2 more questions. good luck

I would not buy life insurance from any company unless I know that they are rated AAA. If not you are taking an unnecassary risk that the company will be around when a claim is made. Gerber prey's on new parents and they are not offering anything that a well rated company wouldn't offer. View the purchase of life insurance the same way you would if you were investing in the stock of a company. if it is not well rated don't buy it.

Gerber Life is well-rated and has offered life insurance for children for many years now.

Here is a complete review of Gerber Life's offer compare to another Life Insurance Plan for Children from Globe Life.

Gerber Life's Plan - Overview:

Coverage Amount: Up to $30,000

Whole Life Insurance - Builds Cash Value

Coverage automatically doubles at age 21

No Medical Exam

30 day Money-back Guarantee

AM Best financial strength rating – A (Excellent)

Available for Ages: Infant to 12 years old

The Globe Young American Plan - Globe Life - Overview:

Coverage Amount: Up to $30,000

Whole Life Insurance – Builds Cash Value

No Medical Exam

30 day Money-back Guarantee

AM Best financial strength rating: A+ (Superior)

Available for Ages: Infant to 25 years old

When you consider all things, Globe Life does have a higher financial strength rating through A.M. Best. Also, Globe Life has been around longer and has more than 2.5 million policyholders.

It may be something to consider, comparing Globe Life's offer with the Gerber Life plan you are looking at now.

I hope that helps. Best of luck to you.

I think you should seriously consider getting an insurance agent, rather that use an 800 number.

Any person or company that doesn't give excellent service should be avoided.

Gerber Life Insurance has been insuring smiling babies since 1967. The company’s juvenile life insurance products include the “Grow-Up” whole life policy. The company also offers whole life policies for young adults and older adults, term life plans, and life burial plans, as well as accident protection.

They do offer a variety of policies for newborns, but can be expensive compared to many other companies.

You may want to comparison shop to see how Gerber's rate compares to the other large insurance companies. Life insurance is best found by investing time, educating yourself and comparison shopping. Getting a quote takes about 2 minutes.

Once again, shop around, get multiple quotes, and learn all you can about a policy before you buy life insurance.

First, there are better policies from better companies that Gerber. Shop around.

Second, Insurance is an item that we must purchase and needs regular reviews for all of your coverage. The coverage that you need changes throughout your life. This goes for life, disability, property & casualty, etc. Find an agent that you trust (You will have to kiss a lot of frogs).

When you are dealing with an insurance company, take solid notes of any conversation you have especially who and when. Don't settle for form letters. If you don't understand, ask for clarification both from the company and from the agent. If you really need a clear understanding, ask for a letter on company letterhead signed by an officer. That will carry more weight if you need to dispute the point beforre your state's insurance commissioner.

Good Luck

OK, whole life insurance is a huge ripoff. It costs more than term, for a LOT less coverage.

Some people here will no doubt post links to get quotes - try them. Also, check with the agent who writes your car and/or house insurance, see if they'll give you a couple life quotes.

Ask for 20 Year Term, renewable and convertible. Anthing else - whole life, universal life, anything that touts a savings plan - is a ripoff. Don't buy from any agent that pushes these - they cost a LOT more, and the agent makes a LOT more money from them - which means they are NOT looking out for your best interest, but their own.
