Hi,
Besides locating the policy, you also have to check whether the life policy is still inforce. ( i have cases of such and the beneficiary thought she has a claim on the policy but turn out a disappointment)
If still inforce, and If he had paid for the premium, there will be receipts or annual statements that declare the bonuses etc. From there, you can find out the company name.
If can't find the statement, Otherwise, you can write to all companies (sounds abit ridiculous...) give them full name of and the identity no#. of your brother in law -- telling them the reason for checking and they can check from their computer system if your brother in law is their policy holder..
Don't know about your side, but in our country here, we have to produce marriage certificate and death certificate to insurance company to process the claim.

Sorry about your loss....however you need the information from the company who wrote the policy for with out that you and your loved ones have nothing to go on.

Try having her contact her States Insurance Department.They may have some knowledge. This may or may not help. Good Luck |

Instead of trying to send a letter to every insurance company that could have possibly sold him one....try these to start:
1. His employer - he may have coverage through them.
2. If he belonged to any professional organizations - they often times have policies that cover members.
3. Chances are, it wasn't a one time, paid up policy. So - he's paying premiums. Either through a deduction at work - check his paycheck, direct debit from the bank account, or by check.
4. If his auto insurance and homeowners insurance is with carriers that sell life insurance, check with them. The agent probably did some cross-selling. |
