copswife134 | Looking for health insurance at a reasonable price? |
You would think that since my husband is a police officer, I'd have great health benefits. Nope. He has full coverage which only costs him $1 a pay period. The city he works for picks up the tab for the rest. However, if he were to put me on his insurance it would cost $460 a month. He already pays $540 a month for child support. So we can't exactly afford the extra $460 right now. I have checked with Humana and it was pretty reasonable. Just wondering if anyone knows any other possibilities? |

There’s a new company offering low cost individual health plans in Texas for young, reasonably healthy people. You buy into a plan at a super low cost with fixed benefits that will cover the typical activities and preventative care of a healthy person. Then, if something catastrophic happens, you have the option to get additional levels of coverage, even AFTER the event. A healthy 25-year-old male (and under) would pay under $100 a month for basic coverage. Check them out at http://www.precedent.com - Even if you’re not in Texas, my understanding is that they’ll be offering plans in additional states soon. I hope you find what you need! |

Have you considered a medical discount plan? They are reasonable, I think they start at about $30 a month. I have had alot of luck with them, usually better than insurance as I have pre existing conditions. It doesn't hurt to check it out. |

I have no idea how old you are. For $460 a month, if you're 40 and healthy, you should be able to buy a private policy from a local agent. If you're 30, it should cost about $350 a month. IF you're healthy. If you have things "wrong" right now, no one is going to want to insure you.
Check with the guy that writes your car insurance and house insurance, to get a few LOCAL QUOTES for health insurance coverage in your area. He'll be able to either point you in the right direction, or flat out give you competitive quotes.
Generally, though, there isn't much difference, unless you take on high deductibles or limited coverage. DO NOT buy over the internet, though. |

Your husband’s plan sounds like the least expensive, but there’s no reason not to shop around. The easiest way to find a better plan is to log on to a website like http://www.healthinsurancewiz.com and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your info will be sent to an insurance broker in your area. A broker works with several health insurance companies, and can find the best deal for you. There is no charge for the service and no obligation to buy. Good luck! |

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield. It is about 350 a month if I am not mistaken.
THERE EXCELLENT! Its a 15 copay anywhere and some medicines that should cost me $50+ only cost me $2.80.
Plus my work use to have Humana and the benefits, copay, ect arent near as good as BCBS. Also if I remember correctly Humana was ALOT higher the Blue Cross is for insurance. I really like Blue Cross, you should look into it.
Hope this helps |

I just left a corporate job to begin freelancing, so I had to purchase my own health insurance. I would highly recommend looking into a health savings account. You can save on your insurance premiums by taking a higher deductible. The money you put in the health savings account is used to pay any medical expenses. If you don't use the money, it remains yours and even earns interest (unlike the money you pay on insurance premiums.) Plus the money you put in a health savings account isn't taxed. You can do an online search for Health Savings Accounts to see if this might be an option for you. |
