BCBS as a TON of different plans. They have a different plan for each state, and inside of each state, there are several different plans to choose from - usually 3 - 5.
Having said that, if you already NEED lap band surgery, ie, you're morbidly obese, you're not going to be able to buy a private policy. And if you've got a group policy through your employer, you need to call the number on the back of your card, to see if YOUR PLAN covers it. Most don't, though.
No one here will know that for sure, though, you'll have to call. |

Alot of insurance companies will not cover it because they classify it under the cosmetic surgery category. You will have to get your doctor to submit it for pre approval as something to treat a life threatening disease. |

I'm sure they're not trying to be rude. It's just that questions like this are virtually impossible to answer due to the numerous varieties of health plans available, with each one covering (or not covering) different procedures.
To answer your question correctly and in its entirety, we would need to know more information, such as what state you live in and the exact policy you're under. Even if we knew that, we wouldn't be able to answer your question unless we were looking at a copy of your actual policy. A customer service representative from your insurance company, however, can do just that and that is what they are there for.
Whenever you have a question, such as this, regarding coverage for a certain procedure, it is always best to speak with your insurance company. They will let you know if the procedure is covered or not, and if it is, they should inform you of the steps you will need to take in order for it to be covered. |

Look at the back of your insurance card...there is a 1-800 number...you would be so surprised to find out that they know the answer.........! |
