Maternity Insurance??
I am pregnant, and was just turned down for medicaid, because we supposively make to much money..I'm a full-time student and my husband is self employed. Is there such a thing as maternity insurance? I have been looking online, and all these insurance companies will not offer maternity coverage unless I have been with them for 9 months without being pregnant..and c'est la vie, it's a little to late for that! Also, maternity card? Does anyone know anything about this? Good? Bad? All feedback will be appreciated.

You will most likely be denied any insurance coverage for the pregnancy due to the pre-existing condition.

Your best bet now is to try to find a discount card plan that will let you pay only the pre-arranged discount with whatever health care provider you choose to have the birth.

You might see if your college or community has a free clinic for pre-natal checkups....at least make sure nothing is a problem until you are ready for the birth.

The average cost of normal childbirth in the US runs anywhere from $6000-$8000. If you can get a discount card that can shave 20-30% off that, you'll save thousands.....but you will still likely come away with a big bill.

And check to see if, once the child is born, the Medicaid protocols for you are different....because maybe your child can get covered when they are young.

Check with the doctors and hospital on a "CASH" delivery. The hospital offered to deliver my child for $2000. I rejected the offer since I had health insurance and they billed my insurance carrier over $20,000 and I still ended up paying more than I would have for the cash delivery!!!!

Just an option!

at the hospital where i have worked, they have offered plans for a packaged deal for prenatal care and delivery. you pay a flat free for everything payed on the type of delivery you have. call hospital billing departments and ask around. and nogate any bills before you see the doc, otherwise you lose your leverage. and health care discount cards are not a bad idea.it may be worth it to get a job with less pay until the baby is born.. so you qualify for Medicaid.. with the bill you have coming..it will eat up what you are making anyways.

Congrats on your pregnancy! You can get a discount plan that covers maternity here: http://www.everyonebenefits.com/LMota

If you are already pregnant it's not possible to get maternity coverage. It's kind of hard for an insurance company to see any potential profit on the coverage when it's a guarantee that they will pay a claim.

What state are you in? In California we have non-profits that help middle income people. One is called AIM (my friend got this for around 80$ a month) 800-433-2611 another is Baby-cal 1-800-222-9999. If you arent in California, you may want to call thse people and see if they have any numbers for other non-profits in your state.

Do you guys have health insurance? It's normally covered under your health insurance.

No one is going to pick up maternity benefits, unless maybe your husband gets a new job with group benefits.
