Due 06/03/09 with Baby Girl | Medicaid Question...? |
Okay I need someone who REALLY knows that they're talking about. Seriously.
Okay I am 3 months pregnant and going to apply for medicaid this wednesday (December 10th)...I am not going to a medicaid office I am going to a clinic and applying for it there. I live in NJ and the office told me I would receive "temp medicaid" for 45 days and have to goto that clinic to get that temp insurance. Also the lady told me it would take about 4-5 months for my medicaid to really come in. Is this true?
Also, I know I will not tell this when I am applying but after Christmas and the New Year I am planning to move to Oregon. WIll everything justr transfer or will I have to reapply altogether?? I was told not to tell the office that I am moving because they won't give it to me then. What do I do??? And does anyone know if everything will transfer? Including, wick, cash assistance (welfare) |

As far as the NJ medicaid taking that long to "come in"-that doesn't make sense. They told you that you would have temporary coverage for 45 days, but it would take 4-5 months to get medicaid? What are you supposed to do for the 2 months that you have the break there?
It's possible that you misunderstood. Make sure you understand it before you apply. Here is a link to NJ medicaid:

If you are moving to Oregon, you will have to reapply once you move. Here is a link to their application that you can complete on-line:

Do not apply where that tells you not to be honest with the Medicaid office. If this clinic told you to lie to the Medicaid office, either apply at another clinic or at the Medicaid office, but not at this clinic. |

I have no idea how long NJ takes to approve Medicaid, but that is a REALLY long wait. I'd expect 4 -5 WEEKS.
Medicaid is run on a state by state basis. NJ Medicaid is no good, outside of NJ. When you move, you have to reapply for Oregon Medicaid.
Wic is ALSO run on a state by state basis. Nothing transfers. You have to reapply. |

Medicaid and welfare are administered at the state level. Nothing transfers - if you move out of state, you will have to reapply.
Also, some states might have waiting periods to be eligible for assistance. Before you move to Oregon, you should find out whether you'd be eligible right away for Medicaid and other assistance.
(If you're going to move in 3 weeks, it almost seems like a huge waste of time to go through the whole process to apply for Medicaid in New Jersey now. Unless there's a chance that you won't be moving?) |

Maybe you should apply at the medicaid office. Your benefits are by state and probably won't transfer, but it may expedite the process when you move, if you work with the official office. I would do that. |

You have to apply in the new place too. It does not transfer automatically because every state has its own programs. |

You are in a serious position. If you tell the truth they will not help you at the present location, which won't help until after you move. If you don't tell the truth and they find out you can loose all of it. Your records from the clinic and any doctors will be part of your record so be carefull what you tell them.
You are really stuck in a hard spot. The best thing to do is call the medicade office from a payphone so it can't be traced to your name and ask these questions. Change your name and conditions so they can't trace it back to you. You may get someone sympathetic and give you a way around this whole thing.pp |
