COBRA plans will often be much more expensive than an individual Florida health insurance policy would be, because your employer is not required to carry any of the expense. You go to a local agent, and get quotes for individual family plans.
Keep in mind, those individual plans are allowed to exclude coverage for any preexisting condtions, and don't actually have to offer you any plan at all.
Cobra really is best, though, if anyone in the family is overweight, or has any preexisting conditions.
To give you a frame of reference, the average low/no deductible comprehensive family plan costs around $1200 a month. |

The cost of COBRA will be based on the health and gender mix of your old company. If your company had a lot of women, or had people with health issues then individual insurance may be more affordable for you. Not to mention that you can pick a plan that best suits your needs.
