Well this is really stressing me out I'm 21 last year I was at the hospital got sick of the apendix, and I had no medical insurance that was around October16,2006 well now I have a huge bill but I don't have no money I applied for insurance a while before I got sick but my medical coverage didn't becaome effective until January 1,2007 but I don't think its going to cover it since back then I wasn't insured are there any help programs that can help me seriously? I'm very needy of money my medical insurance is Cigna HMO, please help someone. |

Your right, if your insurance coverage was not in effect at the time you received treatment for your illness you are not covered. The best bet is to work out some type of payment arrangement with the hospital or medical facility that provided the treatment. This is very common; chances are you will be able to work out an affordable payment schedule until your debt is paid. |

If the hospital was a public hospital along with making payment arrangements also check to see if they have an indigent program. The indigent program helps low income individuals or families pay their hospital bills. This is usually funded by the city and/or state government to insure that the hospital does not turn anyone away because of their inability to pay. if the hospital has this program you will have to fill out paperwork concerning how much money you make and the size of your household. |

You are correct Cigna will not pay since it happened before your effective date. The only option at this point is to call the hospital and the dr's that will be billing you and see if they will cut you a deal. Let them know that you dont have insurance and alot of the time they will give you a discount. They figure that some is better then none. |

Well to be very true...once u get sick and have some kind of operation done u cannot have low cost premium insurance before 5 yrs.. so you dont have much choices and right now if u go for medical insurance all the agents are going to charge u very high!
u can go to www.medigap.com
and u can find a medial discount card,only for $2 a day,which is almost nuthing!
With this u can grt 60% discount in your medical bills!

True, insurance won't "back cover" bills, any more than you can go to the track and "back bet" on a horse that's already raced.
You're best bet is to call the hospital billing department, and work out a payment plan with them. It's common, it happens all the time. Then because you're young, you can take a second job, and I bet even if you just flip burgers on weekends, you can pay this off inside of a year and a half. |
