My Grandmother has a medicare health Insurance card.
It says effective date 10-01-1992
Is Entitled to Hospital part A Benefits only
Do you think this card is still good? Can She she still use it?

You do not loose Medicare Part A benefits, so she can still use it. Part A is for inpatient hospital coverage only; that is, she must be admitted to a hospital before she can receive any benefits.
She should look into getting Part B if she does not have coverage through a group policy. Part B is for outpatient and doctor benefits. If she does not currently have a group policy and does not have Part B she can only enroll from January 1 to March 31 each year for a July 1 effective date. She'll have to pay the Part B premium and a penalty for not having Part B.
With Part A only she can get a Part D drug plan but in most cases she'll be locked out until annual enrollment from November 15 through December 31. She may also have a penalty to pay for Part D as well. She cannot get a Medicare Supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan until she also has Part B.
Medicare can get very confusing and what she can and cannot get, and the time restrictions and penalties involved, will depend on her situation. She should call Medicare or a local agent that works with Medicare policies for more assistance. |

The card is probably still good. Part A, is inpatient hospital treatment - and only PART of the hospital bills.
She very well may have since upgraded to add other parts to her coverage. |

The medicare health insurance card was issued by a health insurance company. There's no expiration date on that card, so if she has changed health insurance carriers or someone helped her in the past, there's a possibility that she may be insured under another health insurer.
The best way to confirm is to call the health insurance company and check her membership status. It should be on the card. Call them and ask for membership department. If you want to find out about care she's eligible for, ask them to transfer you to the benefits department. Or ask the rep the question and the rep will transfer you to the right department. |
