Chrissy | My Mom lost the stone on her engagement ring. Is there any solution?? Could she be reimbursed?? |
Could she be reimbursed by jewelry store/insurance? What if it is not covered on insurance? Then she is probably screwed, right....? |

Well, if she doesn't have insurance on it then yes, she's screwed. Or some jewelry places require you have your ring inspected every few months. Like mine came from Zales. In order to have my lifetime warranty on it- meaning since it was bought from there, they will replace any loose or missing stones on my rings if I have it inspected by them in the months of May and November EVERY year. If you miss your inspection month, the lifetime warranty expires. But if you do it those twice a year inspections, its warrantied forever. Does the company it was bought from do this? And does she get it inspected when they require her to? |

If you have your own house... don't forget to have her check her homeowners policy. Sometimes things like that are covered where you can demonstrate it as a clear loss and not simply mislaid.

Depending on when she bought it, and the store's policy on lost stones. If there's no insurance, she's SOL. |

The loss is covered by your homeowner's policy. However, it might not be covered for the full amount unless it was listed on a special rider.
How long did she have the ring? If it was recently bought you might have a warranty claim against the seller.
Also if it was bought by credit card, the credit card company may offer you some protection. Read the fine print that came with the card. |

Homeowners and renters normally will not cover for a "lost item". But your mom should check with her homeowners or renters insurance to see if she has it scheduled. That is specific coverage for an item and then loss is covered. In many cases there is also no deductible. It would be something she would be paying extra for. |

If she "scheduled" the ring on her homeowners policy, it's covered, usually with no deductible.
If she didn't, it's not.
Jewelry stores don't reimburse you when you lose their jewelry, or parts of their jewelry. That's what insurance companies are for. She could check with her credit card company, if it's a new purchase (but probably not, as you're old enough to type, and she's your mom) to see if they have any "built in" coverage for things purchased with the card. |

She isn't necessarily screwed, try calling her home-owner's insurance and see what they have to say. Sometimes these things are covered under the "contents" section of the policy.... |
