My auto insurance is due by tonight at midnight. They do not have a payonline option (Harleysville Insurance) and my agent's office closes at 4 pm, before I get off of work. So, should I mail the payment in today to the main office so it is postmarked for today or should I just wait until my agent opens back up on monday?
Does this mean I won't be covered over the weekend?
Additional Details
I paid a month's payment + a little more when the policy initiated. Each time I've paid, I've paid a bit over the amount due.

Just because its due doesn't necessarily mean its going to cancel?
Check with your agent if theres a grace period. Most companies give you time.
I would go by my agents office today even if he is closed and slide a check under the door. They will have it when they open up on Monday. Likely as not even if it is canceled they will reinstate it with that payment. That way the payment is there.

Call your agent as soon as possible. He or she is the only one who can fully answer your questions. If you have been paying a little extra each time you've paid, it is possible that you have paid a month ahead, that's the first question to ask your agent.

I guess I learned something new on this question. :o) Our insurance company has a payment plan where we pay each month. Even if our payment as late (let's say it's the last payment of the 6 months) they will not drop our insurance. We might get assessed a late charge, but not dropped insurance.

Does your insurance company have a drop box for payments? If so, stop by there after work and drop it off. Or, maybe you an run it by on your lunch break?

I would suggest you call and talk to your agent. That would be the smartest thing to do. Despite everyone's wonderful advice, the best advice is going to come directly from your agent. I'm sure he/she will be understanding and tell you exactly what needs to happen and what will happen.

Good luck! :o)

I don't know how your insurance works, but typically you pay in advance for insurance. When you first got the insurance, did you make a payment immediately? If so, you should be running 30 days ahead so you would certainly be covered over the weekend.

That said, it is very important to make your insurance payments on time. They can cancel your policy if you're late, and not having continuous insurance can cause you to have surcharges added to your policy.

I would contact your insurance company's toll-free customer service number, if available, and find out directly what penalties might be imposed.

your policy will expire at 12:01am. yep, that means you will have no coverage. either way (mail or agent) your payment is going to be late. if you go in monday and pay your agent, they can reinstate as long as you have no losses over the weekend. call your agent and Harleysville today and see if they can take a payment over the phone.

Call your agent, ask for suggestions. Perhaps they can do an electronic funds transfer today, or put it on a credit card. If you let this policy lapse and have an accident over the weekend they will not cover you.

I don't know if they accept a postmark date.

And I don't know if your payment is just "due", or if your policy is in cancellation status. If it's just due, pop it in the mail. If it's in cancellation status and cancelled last night at midnight, don't drive, and call your agent asap.

Most places give you a grace period of about 7 days, they won't drop your coverage until they notify you that they are doing so.
