I dunno what to do here, I'm from Ireland and at the mo my brother is locked up for petty crime in pats a young offenders insitution he has several convictions, he got bail but he asked me to go surety for him and get the money up E300, i did that so far but i dont think i should go surety for him as what will happen if he does not go to his next court, Im terrified he wont turn up but he promise's he will and his mother wont do it as she washed her hands with him! I would do it but if he dont turn up will i have to pay courts as i have no money and im a single mother |

You need to accept the fact that every hardened criminal locked up in prison is some mums' beloved son, some girls favourite brother.
At the moment your young brothers offences' are apparently 'petty crimes' but that is the thin end of the wedge. As he already has several convictions it is likely that he already has the view that societies' laws do not apply to him. By going surety for him you are putting yourself in a position of YOU having to pay if he defaults - that is what going surety is all about. Your Mother has washed her hands of him so she does not trust him so it seems pretty foolish if you, with a child of your own to think about, would think of trusting him.
I would not on any account go surety for him. If he wants to break the law then he has to be prepared for the consequences! |

I would be very care full if I were you, if you are thinking of helping your brother out by being surety for him, he shouldn't put the responsibility on like that, if he don't turn up then the court will expect you to pay the money and if you haven't got the money, then you could go to jail, I know it hard but if your mother wont take the responsibility why should you. |

it`s a hard one pet re: being a family member!
a bit harsh you may think but he did the crime-he should be prepared to do the time!
as a single mother it must be hard for you financially as it is-he should never have put you in this position!
don`t think for a moment that i don`t realise you love your brother but your child comes before him!
your mother hasn`t washed her hands of him for nothing luv `eh?
we `all` have to make mistakes to learn lessons re: life-whatever he`s done/does is `his choice`-his consequences!
and the next time he screws up?
please look out for yourself and your child pet-neither of you have done the wrong!
also please don`t feel any guilt re: refusing him-he`ll probably understand and thank you l8r-when he grows up and settles down-life`s like that! |

since you are undecided...there must be a nagging doubt, what happens if you don't cough up...maybe offer to lend a smaller amount..that way you are not saying no or being hard...just not all the amount...sorry to say you must look after number one. .. |
