My daughter has mislaid her engagement ring?
My daughter was helping me decorate the bathroom, and since then she cant find her engagement ring.We have l really pulled the house apart to look for it to no avail. My husband has lookrd in the drains,he pulled the bath panel off. That was 3 weeks ago.She took some rubbish to the local dump,We have searched everywhere. What i think has happened is that she had put her ring in the front compartment of her handbag for safe keeping.Well she also had her car keys in there as well. The only think i can think of is that when she got her car keys out ,they must have caught the ring so goodness knows where it went to .Please dont give me tips on where to look ,as there isnt anywhere else to look.Do you think that i could claim on my contents insurance fpr it .I have new for old and accidental damage .ANY ANSWERS VERY WELCOME.

Jewelry needs to be scheduled on a homeowners policy to be covered for "mysterious disappearance". There is some coverage for jewelry but it is limited and only for theft.

It depends on what insurance company you have and what type of policy you have. It may also depend on your state. My company limits jewelry on a homeowners policy to minimum of $1000.00 per occurrence for theft OR mysterious disappearance and maximum of $2500 per piece up to $5000 per occurrence, depending on what you chose with your policy. Now, her ring will not be covered on your policy (if she lives with you, you could try, but it is still a long shot). She would have to have a renter's or homeowners policy of her own.

I am not for sure about your homeowners policy covering the ring, your daughter may need to look into her policy if she has one. Sometimes there is some coverage provided on policies for jewelry, but most of the time it needs to be scheduled for the appraisal amount. You should call your agent and discuss it with him to be sure. He may have a better way of going about the claim.

Sorry - I hope you find the ring!

his temptress
I think in order for it to be covered it would have had to have been scheduled. I carry a separate policy for my wedding ring as it wouldnt be covered under my regular home owners insurance. Especially if she does not live there I dont think you will be able to claim it.
Sorry.
Good Luck

When your daughter's fiance purchased the ring did he buy insurance from the jeweler? On her policy if it is not a schedule item it is only covered for the total that unscheduled jewelry is covered for, and that is usually five hundred dollars. All valuable jewelry should have a mysterious disappearance rider.

Gambit
Does your daughter live with you and is under 21? Is she under the age of 21 and going to school full time? If you answered no to the above (and I imagine it would be no), then it wouldn't be covered as your daughter is not considered an insured person under your homeowner's policy. Your daughter will have to look to her own policy for coverage. If you said yes, at this point you will need to grab your homeowner's policy and confirm what personal property is covered for. If you are covered for 'Named Perils' on personal property, I can guarantee you are out of luck, because mysterious disappearance will never be a named peril. If you are covered on an 'All Risk' basis, then you will have to see if 'Mysterious Disappearance' is an excluded peril. At this point it would probably be easier to consult your broker to see if it is or is not excluded.

OK, Jewelry isn't covered for "oops I lost it" under the standard homeowners policy. Contents, including jewelry, are covered on a NAMED PERILS basis, and losing it isn't a peril. Sorry.

Have you checked the car? And the driveway??
