It's HIPPA law, and no they don't require doctors to charge a fee when giving you a copy of your lab work. |

I'm not aware of any law that *requires* a provider to charge you for a copy of your records, but the law does *permit* them to charge you a reasonable fee for the information.
(Reasonable fee would take into consideration the cost of the photocopies and also the staff time to pull/copy the info.) |

I get copies of medical records all the time to settle claims, and it's rediculous how much some places charge. I just had to pay a doctor's office $22 to get 2 pages of records.
HIPAA(Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act) doesn't require offices to charge for anything, so I think they're pulling your chain a little there, but $5 for records is actually a lot less than most places I get them from. |

copy of any of your lab work has to be given to you free of charge by law. HEPA law is a privacy act. does not have anything to do with lab. I work in a medical billing. this is my job. |
