*tiffany* | My doctor just gave me a slip to give to my work that says I should be temporarily disabled until 11/20/2007? |
The reason the doctor gave me the note is due to a knee injury that I have. Now my question is this, the injury was not work related so can I collect disability ins. during this time off???
And how does one go about doing that? I live in CA. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. Additional Details And I forgot to this part. I've only been working at this company since May of this year and previous to that I was a full time student. Will that affect the situation as far as me getting paid to live now? |

Yes you can - assuming you have disability insurance. Disability does not matter where you got injured. Only worker's comp cares about that.
Assuming you have a disability policy, and the waiting period is not longer than your disability, you should get coverage. |

I think that disability kicks in after about six weeks, You will have to use vacation days, unless you have purchased short term disability. |

Yes
"California State Disability Insurance (SDI) is a partial wage-replacement insurance plan for California workers. The SDI program is State-mandated, and funded through employee payroll deductions. SDI provides affordable, short-term benefits to eligible workers who suffer a loss of wages when they are unable to work due to a NON WORK-RELATED illness or injury, or a medically disabling condition from pregnancy or childbirth." (Capital letters in original.)
If your doctor just gave you the slip today, please tell us who this doctor who is willing to see patients on Sunday is. |

You can file for temporary disability with EDD. Workers' Comp disability does not apply because your condition is not work-related. |

If you have health insurance from work and the waiting period is zero day, then you may be able to make a claim. |
