My father died a year ago, but the hospital is still sending bills. Am I responsible for them?
He had emergency room service that was not covered by Secure Horizons or Hospice. Who pays this bill since he is deceased?
His estate is responsible for them - so forward them to the executor of his estate.

it should be his estate if there was any. if he had no assets when he died then the hospital cannot recover unless you signed papers.
?
Tell them that he passed away. The hopital will wtite it off.

You are not responsible. They can sue for owed amount against his estate if any. Only if you signed for any loans or have your name as owing do you owe anything. Did he die while at that hospital? If not, they may not know he is dead. You may have to send them proof that he is deceased. If he had an estate I would probably talk to an lawyer for advice. There are lawyers that specialize in this area.

sorry for you loss, I think it comes out of his estate.
larsgirl
if it's an ER bill they may not know that he is deceased.
Sorry for your loss.
If there is an estate, then forward the bill to whoever is handling it.
Otherwise, take it to the hospital with a copy of the death certificate and tell them he's passed away.. they should write it off.. They could get pissy about it, ask you if you are responsible for his debts... if you don't co-own anything, then no.
good luck.
