ck with the mortgage company. they require insurance on the home and should have the information. if he let the insurance laps then the mortgage company adds there insurance at a very high cost. you could also ck the incoming mail to see if a bill shows up. if the house was paid off then i can only guess to ck and see if they had important papers in a sfe deposit box. another thought is ck the bank records when they show in the mail. im sure if he was paying there should be a check written somewhere you could trace to the compny. good luck, sorry for your loss.............. |

Contact the company that held the mortgage on his home. All home mortgage lenders require homeowners to carry property insurance.
Secondly, contact the bank that he had a checking/savings account. While they may not know the insurance carrier you should be able to access his cancelled checks which would provide a record of payments made to insurance companies and/or mortgage companies if you don't know who held his mortgage.
Finally, you might contact your insurance company. There is a document known as a CLUE report which can be generated by providing a home address. If you provide your father's address and he has ever filed a claim against his policy it will come up on this CLUE report which would also provide the name of the insurance company against which the claim was filed.
Good luck. I know this is difficult having been through something similar myself. |

You can't locate the company? You can't find the policy, so you don't know what the company is? The ex doesn't want to tell you what the company might be?
If there was a mortgage on the house, the mortgage company will have the information on the insurance. |

If he had a mortgage, they will have records about the insurance. If he did not have a mortgage, you could hire a private detective to do a search to find the policy. It shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred dollars.
My condolences on the loss of your father. |

If he still owed money on the house, the mortgage company will have record of who covered the house as they require this info and proof of coverage. If he did not have a mortgage, check your father's bank statements. Copies will be on file at the bank and would show payments to an insurance company on an annual or semi-annual basis. If you find none, and his house was paid off, he may not have had insurance on the home as it is not technically required, though advisable. |

I would contact a large, reputable insurance agency and ask them what procedures to follow. They probaby have some experience in this, and might be abe to point you in the right direction. |

Bummer. Check with the mortgage company. You might even call the county tax office. They might be able to tell you who has been paying the property taxes. They are usually collected and forwarded by the mortgage company, who could tell you who is the insurance company. |

You need to list down all the insurance carriers in your state, where the prop. is located, get all of their 800#'s and start calling them and ask. Also, if there is still a loan owed on the house, the mortgage co. should have a record of his insurance carrier. If he has an auto policy, maybe his homeowner policy is associated with his auto policy. At any rate, there is no liability coverage to the homeowner on a homeowner policy, only a personal liability coverage against him. Personal liability coverage protects the homeowner from anyone suing him for personal liability or personal injury. Personal liab is to protect him from having a lien against his prop due to lawsuits arising out of personal damages. Don't mean for you to loose hope, just stating a fact. You can also have his credit report checked. This insurance companies does some credit hisotry check before they provide you coverage. It might give you some info. Hope it helps |

I would try to contact the lawyer who handled the divorce. There may be some information in the list of assets about who held the insurance policy.
I would also try the place where he banked. He may have set up a direct payment for insurance and they would know the company information.
Sorry about the loss of your father. |

If he had home insurance...they are not going to come looking for you. You have to call all the insurance agencies. |

Did he have a mortgage or lien on the property? If so they would have record of the insurance company. Perhaps you could check with a title insurance company as well. |
