Not unless he transferred ownership over to you, and you've been paying the premiums.
Likely, the policy is long, long lapsed. If he's STILL paying premiums on it, he can transfer ownership to you, and YOu can take over paying premiums - but if it's the typical baby insurance policy, IF he's up to date on payments and the policy is current, "cash value" is likely around $100. Honest.
But you'll have to talk to him about it - he's the policy owner. |

The question is who owns the policy? If you do not own the policy, then your answer is no, only the owner of the policy can "cash in" or take a policy loan from the insurance assuming that it is cash value life insurance policy.
If your father gave you ownership of the policy and you "cash in" or surrender the policy, there maybe tax conciquences for you surrendering the policy since you did not pay any of the premiums and it could be looked at as all gains to your income. If the agent who wrote the policy is still around I would advise you seek them out for advice. If they are not available, find an agent that represents the isuring company they may have some other insight that is not available in this forum. |

yes, you can. is your father still living. if so, just speak to him about it and tell him you would like to cash in your policy. you probably can become the owner of the policy. |

YOUR father did good thing to insure but encashment of it will mean that upon your death your survivors will be paid the insurance amount, which is not at all a choice or dream. only on maturity it can be encashed. other way is to take Housing loan against the paid up amount and that will give you some money which you may use for the purpose you choose.. if housing is not your first choice. |

it depend what type of policy it is and what,if any restriction are place within the policy. ie you may have to die to win ,in plain terms there is no worth to the policy if its whole of life only cover. Check out with the company who issued the policy |

I hope you didn't buy you a cash value policy that is a terrible way to spend money. just rotten. buy term, and invest the rest |
