Many states have funds for crime victims. He could inquire with the police department, or possibly the attorney general's department. (I know of at least one state where the state Attorney General's department administers the crime victim fund, but I don't know if other states handle it differently.) |

He could try a County facility or see if the Police have a fund for victims of crime, that is if he reported it at the time. |

The hospital should be offering whatever assistance they have available. This may be medicaid, charity care , trauma funds or Victim of Crimes (if he was not a perpetrator).Most hospitals will attempt to transfer indigent patients to a county hospital if there is a county bed available. He may qualify for medicaid, and the hospital will assist with that as well. If the hospital hasn't talked to him about it yet, he should contact the admitting or financial counseling department to get the ball rolling. |

In my state there is a "Crime Victims Fund"
The fund is supported by fines levied to people who commit violent or physical crimes.
Check with your county or state Family Independance Agency (Health and Human Services) or contact your local law enforcement agency to find out what services are available to victims of violent crimes.

Many states have victim reimbursement programs. The state pays for the costs incurred, then the person who is responsible for the injuries is required to pay the state.
If your friend knows who did it or if a police report was filed and they caught the person, then your friend can also file a lawsuit against whoever did it.
A victim reimbursement program requires that you have a police report. |
