If there is a catholic hospital in your area they usually have charity care when the hospital pays all or a portion of the bill.

first of all I would find out why your health insurance was terminated. but the only advice I can tell you, talk to your doctor and maybe he can do something about it. good luck.

grandmaluvalot
Contact your local welfare office. They have lots of different solutions. If there is not one for you go to an IHC hospital. They will let you apply for help on paying for your bill thrugh them. Good luck.

I have health benefits myself. Not the same as insurance but not much different. All preexisting is accepted and it works well for me. Message me and i will give you details.

Is the insurance company still in business? Can you get COBRA? If you can't get on COBRA, then just notify the business where the testing will be done that you are a self pay. They might be able to work with you on your payment and they also might be able to give you a reduction in price, but you have to ask.

Survivors Ready?
How long ago and why was your insurance canceled? If it was due to employment termination or change in dependent status and within 30 - 90 days, you may still be covered. Contact your employer (previous if position terminated) or your spouse/parents employer regarding COBRA/HIPPA benefits immediately and if applicable, sign up for them to continue your medical insurance coverage.

You can check into local public hospitals. It's my understanding that no public hospital (county, teaching, etc.) will refuse you treatment if you are ill. They all have a social service department that will work with you to help you find some sort of financial assistance. Catholic or other religious hospitals may be able to help you too, but they are considered private and so there may be stipulations to their assisting you financially.

Also check with your local county/state public assistance agencies and Social Security offices. You may qualify for temporary assistance.

Good luck and feel better!

Check with your local public assistance office. Find out where you get these tests done if they take payments. Also, sometimes at the local hospitals you can check with the billing department who will put you on a sliding scale based on your income and sometimes they have programs you could apply for to see if you can get help their. This is usually funded by various charties whom people have donated to in order to help others out. Good luck...I know it sucks I don't have insurance either.

I might ask why your insurance was canceled, was it due to lack of payment? or did you quit your job? If you quit your employer should have made available to you your same coverage through COBRA, it would obviously be at a cost to you but it is certainly better than nothing. Since I don't know the situation surrounding your loss of coverage and do not have the benefit of knowing what your financial status is, I can't say if you would qualify for some type of coverage through your state assistance program. I know many times states offer insurance to single moms with children for example, but like I said it is dependent on your individual financial situation.

Talk to your counties health department. It may be able to help. The county I live in has a free clinic for single moms, the poor, etc. who cannot afford health care.

Talk to your doctor and see if his office has alternatives ways of payment. Check with your state for mediaid alternatives.

If you don't have insurance and you are below a certain income level many hospitals have a charity care program designed to either forgive your bill or help you pay it on a monthly basis. You usually have to ask the hospital billing office about it and you may have to provided proof of income.

In the state of Ohio it's called the HCAP program.

If it is something that you truly cannot afford, i.e. financial difficulties, you could apply for a government health plan like medicaid.

I won't bother repeating what other people have said. I will add that your options depend on what state you live in and what you can afford to pay for coverage.

In some states, such as NY, the individual market is guaranteed issue, so anyone can buy insurance regardless of health status. Other states have high risk pools, that provide coverage for individuals with health conditions. Both of these options can be costly.

If you are coming off employer-sponsored coverage, look into COBRA coverage (as suggested in some other answers)

Additionally, some states have state funded programs that provide subsidized coverage for eligible individuals. If these are not options for you, then look into Medicaid (if you are eligible) or charity care.

I noticed that someone suggested a discount card, I would say use caution if looking into this product. Some do offer some discounts, but many exagerate discounts or benefits offered, and some discount card ultimately prove to offer no real benefits.

For more information about your states insurance market and your rights and protection, maybe look at the Consumer Guides posted on healthinsuranceinfo.net.
