We live in charleston SC, he tried to plead not guilty and question the cop (idiot) and the judge told him he couldn't question him at all, but the same method did work in another county in SC, anyway the amount of the ticket was 128 and the cop dropped it to 100, he was going 60 in a 45, and now he has 2 points on his license, i'm a 24 female with no points and a new 2005 scion xb, he has a 2003 lancer and is 22, and he has a newer motorcycle, all are financed, we go through progressive insurance, is our insurance going to be super high now? |

If this was his first speeding ticket, your insurance will not go up that much. Many insurance companies give you one 'freebie'.
But - if you really want to push it, you may be able to appeal the case. It is one of the basic rights in the Constitution that someone accused of a crime is able to confront (and question) the witnesses against them . An appeal on the grounds that he was not allowed to question the officer would probably get the case thrown out. |

I worked for Progressive up until this year and I can tell you that at the time of your policy renewal you'll see a premium increase. Your husband can take a defensive driving class and have the 2 points erased before the renewal period. Have him talk to the judge. Usually judges will work with you. I have a sportbike and I have taken two Defensive Driving classes and had tickets erased and not had to experience a premium increase.
Have him tell the judge that his livelihood (job) depends on having a clean driving record. |

Actually Progressive probably will increase the premium.
Progressive has many price points unlike other insurers. What that means is while his rate may go up, it may not go up as much as other insurers who will lump him in with the speeders. Progressive is much more likely to look at other factors, but I doubt it will have no impact....it just won't have as big an impact.
In terms of your court case, the judge said what he did because it didn't matter what your husband asked. Your husband WAS speeding....end of story. The judge was trying to save time and unnecessary costs. In almost all these cases it becomes your husband's word against the cop's word. Who do you think they are going to believe?
Your best best would be to see if the court allows you to plead a "continuance for dismissal." Which is basically a way of saying you are sorry and you won't do it again.
You may a much larger fee usually $200 or more. But if you don't have any more violations within one year of the ticket, they then dismiss the initial charge.
Yes you had to pay much more of a fine, but at least the case was dismissed and a ticket didn't go on your record. |

It all depends on what your insurance company does for things like that. My husband got his first speeding ticket since he was 16 (he's 40 now) and our insurance DID NOT go up. Our insurance company forgives one ticket.
My advice to you would be to call progressive and ask them, but I doubt that it will go up. And if it does, it won't be that much at all because it was only speeding and nothing worse. |

Are your two progressive policies linked? He should only be surcharged on one policy - his car. Then if Progressive tries surcharging your car, or his motorcycle, you'll have to call them and explain that he's already paying the surcharge on his car. You could also be proactive, and call them, and explain that you want to make him a "deferred" driver on your policy and his motorcycle policy, as he has the auto policy with Progressive. |
