Your husband, depending on how long he has worked, can collect disabilitiy insurance, and you may be eligible as head of household to collect food stamps or financial aid through social services. |

Get your doctor's certificate that he can't work and then go apply for Social Security Disability . It can take a while and many are turned down the first time around, but don't give up , go back again and hang in there . You paid for it, so go get the help when needed . Perhaps he is eligible at first for unemployment compensation ! |

If he has short-term disability insurance at work, he needs to apply for benefits.
If not, he can apply for social security disability (SSDI), which can be done online. Go to the US website, firstgov.gov, and go to benefits, etc., then to the SSDI application form and instructions. Or he can go to the local SSA (Social Security Administration) office if there is one, but be prepared to wait and wait. |
