How do you know it is because you turned in a claim for your roof? Did they pay the claim or was the claim denied?
Yes, they can refuse to renew your policy. It is unusual for them to cancel mid term unless you didn't make a premium payment. But there is a difference between canceling you and non-renewing you. |

How many claims have you made in the past few years? I would guess this is your 3rd claim for this policy.
Insurance companies are in business to make money, not spend it. Have they paid you more in claims than you have paid them in premiums? If yes, than that is why you are canceled.
And read your policy, nearly all of them have a clause that gives them permission to not continue your policy at their discretion.
But, they should pay your claim (as long as your policy is in good standing and your premiums were paid at time of loss).
Insurance is regulated at the state level, find out what department regulates the insurance industry in your state and call them on Monday.

Sometimes they will inspect your property and if they see repairs are needed, they can cancel or not renew, but shouldtell you first.
What kind of shape was your roof in before the loss.
What did the cancellation letter say????

the best advice you can get regarding this in England is through an independent Insurance ombudsman....please contact them and they will fight your case for you OR advice you otherwise...good luck |

If you have unrepaired damage, most likely they can. To be sure, look on the back of the cancellation notice. There's probably a little blurb that says, if you don't think we can do this, write to your state insurance department at this address.
Write that letter, and let the state insurance department tell you if the insurance company can do that or not.
The cancellation notice has the REASON for cancellation on it - likely it's "unrepaired damage" or "house does not meet underwriting guidelines" (if more than the roof needs to be repaired). |

Yes, they can. Insurance companies only allow so many claims in the past 3 to 5 years on homes. Some companies only allow 0, while others allow up to 3. If they only allow zero then you should move companies. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

Read your policy....it will tell you the circumstances in which they can/will cancel your policy. But to answer your question...yes they can. |

Insurance companies are out of control. Rate hikes without paying claims. I asked the question before "what does an insurance commissioner do?" and nobody answered. There was a time when you could have taken your complaints to him, but now who knows what his role is. Get paid by the insurance companies? Whats the purpose of having insurance if you can't make a claim? |
