My life insurance is with AIG. How might the federal loan AIG just got to stay solvent affect me?
It won't affect you at all. AIG Life never had any problems. It was AIG (the parent company) that had the problems in it's American operations. AIG Life is completely fine and this bail out from the Fed just made it more secure.

Your life insurance was safe before and after the loan. The insurance companies never had a problem...the holding company did. I should say NONE of the 71 or so insurance companies they own had a problem.

I wouldn't worry about it. AIG is a legal reserve company. On an off change the insurance side of the business does go under, the Term, Cash Value, and Fixed Annuities are covered by the legal reserve system (all decent insurance carriers are apart of this and put money into the this). The Securities are covered under **** (similar to FDIC).
So either way, your life insurance is fine.
A point of note, it is the AIG Parent company having problems, not the individual companies. I believe the Insurance side is doing fine.
