my partner got stopped on sunday for driving uninsured, according to ther police the aa had stopped it in june without giving us any correspondence what so ever, still got certificate and everything.
The thing that is the worry is back in jan 2006 he got stopped for something else got a producer and his insurance was 2 hours out from when he got stopped, and got 6 points and £100 fine. Please can someone give me some advise as i am ill cant work, got a baby and he runs his own joinery business and needs to drive. |

he needs to take on a young lad with driving licence, so hes got a driver, and he can teach lad the trade, he'll have to take on more work to cover cost but hay expansion is always a good thing. you and he have got to think positive to make this work.its just the start of somthing new and even though hes lost his licence, it doesnt have to be a bad thing, its just a lesson learnt, and a chance to grow in other directions,anyway sorry to go on , good luck,,.. |

Well the AA obviously stopped it for a reason, ie, he hadn't kept up with his monthly payments of his premium etc ....
They WOULD have wrote to you so ignorance is no excuse.
The 2006 case is really no different, everyone gets reminders through the post and renewal invitations, if he chooses to ignore them then that's his problem and has no-one to blame but himself. |

if your insurance is stopped or cancelled then you should recieve a letter at the very least - call em find out the circumstances why it was cancelled.
certificate is null and void if it has been cancelled,regardless of the certificate......... check direct debits from bank.
doesnt look good really.....sorry but it doesnt.

Sorry but ignorance is no defence in law, it is your responsibility to keep these requirements in order, particularly as your partner needs to drive for his livelihood. Just try to keep on top of it next time and remember that driving without insurance is jeopardising other road users, if he was to have an accident without insurance the other person would go without compensation. Contact your insurer to find out if they did issue a renewal notice or if your insurance was cancelled for some other reason like non-payment - in which case they would be obliged to inform you of cancellation and reasons for it. Hard times, I hope you get this resolved. |

Call the insurance and get it reinstated.
Then he would have been asked to produce his documents. Once you are insured again, take his documents with certificate and produce them.
They should just take it from that. If you have any more problems i am not sure what you can do.
Did they sieze the car? If so you will be unable to collect the vehical until it has been stamped by your local police station.

All you can do is plead ignorance, but it's not going to wash, Insurance companies don't cancel motor insurance without prior warning and this is his second offence so it doesn't look good. Someone who relies on their vehicle for thier living needs to be a bit more aware. He's probably going to have to hire a driver, as someone else said. |
