All homeowners policies give you the option to add extra coverage for furs, jewelry, etc etc.
If you don't have specific jewelry coverage it probably won't cover anything unless it was stolen from your home. |

Homeowners insurance covers your jewelry if it is stolen.
You would probly need a personal articles policy which is a separate policy. That would have covered it. If you don't have one, your probly out of luck.
Zosh is right. There is no need to call your agent because it will not be covered and it could hurt your claims free discount. |

No, absolutely not! Don't even bother calling them and don't ask anyone else about it - especially strangers on the Internet. There is no reason in the world you should call your agent to discuss this. He will only laugh at you and make you feel worse.
Listen to me...do NOT call your agent. Do NOT discuss this with the insurance company. Continue to seek the advice of people who have never seen your policy. I repeat...do NOT call you agent. |

Unfortunately, you are at a loss here.
I dont understand what all these people here are saying. Do they know ANYTHING about insurance??
Your rings will only be covered if you have a scheduled jewelry floater on your policy. If you dont, then the only jewelry coverage you have is the $2500 that you say, but that is for unscheduled jewelry subject to your deductible. Now with that being said, the only time you are covered for the loss of the rings is in case of burglary/theft/fire etc. Those are the perils that homeowners insurance policies cover.
In your case, this is about negligence. The fact that they were flushed down the toilet, is something that will not be covered. The insurance company will not cover this claim due to the negligence factor. |

If the jewelry was SCHEDULED (specifically insured) then, yes it is covered. Unless there is an exclusion for "deliberate acts by insured". Your son is an "insured".
Otherwise, no it will not be covered. |

They should but they might require extra to cover jewelery. You should look at your policy and call your agent. I recently found out that all of my husbands music equipment was not covered at all. |

The insurance company will not cover your husband when he finds out.
Homeowners insurance will not bail him out.
Hide the kid!!! |

I'm a licensed insurance agent.
Homeowners usually provides a sublimit for lost or stolen jewelry, but they usually require you to schedule expensive items. So, if their standard limit is $2,500 as an example, and your rings were worth $10k or more, you would only get the $2,500 unless you told your agent about their value in advance.
Your agent will be able to help you sort this out. |

Flushed your ring?
Is your son on drugs or something? |

They will, but I would just tell them that the rings fell in themselves or went down the drain or something. If you tell them your kid did it they could exclude coverage by considering it an 'intentional act' even if your child is very young.
I work for an insurance co, and I probably shouldn't say that, but it's true. |
