My son is 21 and wants to get his license. We live in michigan. If i don't tell the insurance wod it go up.
If i don't tell them, would they ever find out he is geting it for job purpose. He is never going to drive me car. thanks

I'm sorry, your son is 21 and he is now just getting his license? Wow! Anyway....they will probably find out if he is using it for a job. Especially if he was ever to get in a wreck even if its not his fault. The insurance company would most likely drop you if they found out. He has a job, make him pay the difference.

Ash
They would find out

MSAD
If he lives in your house and has a drivers license - you have to notify your insurance company. Should you not do that -- and your son causes an accident on the 1 time you let him use your car -- your policy may deny coverage. Not a good thing.

Tell your insurance company he has a license - add him to the policy. And have him pay you the rate increase. He's 21 and has a job. He should pay the increase in your insurance - he's a grown up now.

cut the umbilical cord and let him grow up. He is a man now and needs to be more independent.

he's 21, should be on his own by now....if he doesn't live with you, the insurance won't matter...if he lives with you and has his own car, it might not matter....though if he is on your policy he will have to be listed as a driver...get him his own policy.

Your insurance company does not care if your son gets a drivers license - they only care about who is driving the car.

If you aren't going to let him drive your car, then you don't have to say anything to the insurance company

Remember that if your son does drive your car, and gets in an accident - he will not be insured. Only the people you mentioned in the insurance policy are covered.

If he lives in your house then yes you have to tell them.
Why would you be so irresponsible?
If he does not live in your house he needs to buy his own insurance.
What kind of life lessons are you teaching him?

he can have a license without driving, so you wouldn't need to put him on your insurance unless he was actually driving your car.

mystykoekaki
If you can't afford insurance then you or he should NOT be driving. It's that simple.

Mark C
If he stacks up your car and he's not listed on your insurance, they won't pay. If he's not going to drive your car then you don't have to list him - then your insurance won't go up.

Gambit
The best way to protect yourself is to inform the insurer of the situation and do the following:
1) Add him as occasional driver and pay the additional premium;
2) Add him as an excluded driver, which means he can never touch the vehcile (not even in an emergency).

You should refer to your policy. Telling them is probably required, and failing to tell them probably means no insurance and you bearing all the risk. It would be spelled out in the policy terms.

Insurance companies are not stupid. They're a pain in kazoo, but not stupid.

sc_playgirl_69
So, he won't drive your car.

By law, you are required to have insurance on your vehicles.

But, since he is of age, you don't have to put him under your policy. And no, you don't have to tell your insurance company your 21 year old son got his license. He's an adult and you are not required to carry insurance for him.

ME CAR?? Who's the manufacturer??? Hee, hee, hee! Plus, if your son is 21 he needs to get his OWN insurance - you are only enabling him if you cow tow to his wishes - can't he take the bus to work? I do, and I'm hella older than your son!!!

Boomer
You state that your son wants to get his license. You ask if your insurance company would ever find out he is getting his "license" for job purposes? What does that have to do with your insurance? You state he is never going to drive "me" car. So what exactly is your question? Why "wod" your insurance go up simply because your son is getting a drivers license who you say is not going to drive your car? Something is missing here; what is your question?

he doesnt have to have insurance...or you could just register him as a part time driver.

Why would you want to deny your child the opportunity to become independent, successful? Support the young man- its the most important thing you can do as a parent. Oh- Yes- the insurance companies will know.

Tsunami
your car insur won't go up if hes driving cause he will have to get insur himself and buy a car. you don't have to worry if he drives you donot have to let him drive. it does not matter if hes not driving your car you dont' have to tell them nothing.
