MICHAEL P | My wife sadly passed away last week ...? |
After a long and sad illness and I sent a death certificate to the Prudential to claim under her life policy. I rang the Prudential today and went through to an Indian Call Centre where I enquired on the progress of the death claim. I was told to expect a delay of 3-4 weeks before the claim was settled. I found that so unacceptable that I asked her to contact the UK and confirm what she had just told me. She did so and subsequently advised me that the cheque had been dispatched today. It is bad enough being in mourning but to receive such unprofessional and conflicting advice is totally unacceptable. Is it any wonder we all hate talking across the world about our most private and personal affairs? And I didn't even receive a sniff of a condolence. Has anyone else had such poor service from these call centres? |

I am so sorry for your loss and I agree at a time like this the last thing you need is to have to chase things like this up.
I had a few similar problems when my mother died last year trying to close accounts etc. I came across several very unhelpful people who made a very difficult situation even worse. |

sorry to hear you've lost your wife, that's awful especially this time of year, from now on you'll associate xmas festivities with how bad your feeling, I know, been there.
Its not right having to deal with an incompetent person at this time, there's no personal touch any more. |

I am sorry to hear about your wife.
I have received poor, unprofessional service from my bank's Indian call centre but I'm reluctant to go into details as it will sound so insignificant in comparison to your story.
The reason there are so many unemployed in the UK right now is that all the jobs have been outsourced to countries which can provide cheap labour. I myself was made redundant at the beginnning of November so that my own job could be outsourced to Poland. Yes, we are in a recession and there would be job losses regardless, but it's banks and insurance companies in particular taking so many job opportunities out of the UK that are making the situation considerably worse. |

Sorry for your loss
unfortunately misinformation seems to be a major problem.
don't get me wrong there are staff members that will go out there way to help and are very good at there job but it feels at times that the person you are talking to is telling you anything to get you off the phone.
the problem usually lies with staff training ( or lack of ) and a lot of the staff don't get the support they should from there bosses. |

You're right. We shouldn't have to put up with that. Any more no matter who you call, it seems all the companies are using these Indian Call Centers. What is most annoying is that they can't answer your questions, and even worse, you can't understand them. Why would an American based company all over use people like that who can't speak English!!!! |

i do not have an answer for this question but i would like to say i am so sorry to hear of your loss. May she rest in peace. |

My condolences for your loss.
When I reach a call center, the first thing I do is ask for a number to call and speak to a rep in the US. I would imagine that you could do the same thing in the UK |

Sorry about your loss. I haven't had to make a call about that type of issue myself. However; there have been times that I have called customer services and gotten India. Some are nice, others I could barely understand and a few are just plain rude like I was disturbing them. When we had first gotten our home phone before switching it all to cell, (this was about 3-4 years ago), my husband and I were constantly getting phone calls from bill collectors for some guy that had the number before us. Every time I told them that this is no longer their number and not to call back, they said they wouldn't. They would call 3-5 times a day, this would go on for about a year then every over day or so. I'd ask to speak with their supervisor and when I wasn't hung up on, the supervisor was a prick to me. I guess it doesn't matter what the call is for, some people are just assholes. |

I am sorry to read about the death of your wife, I am in a similar situation because I am dealing with my sister's affairs who died a month ago. Believe me it is not just the call centres that are incompetent.
Out of about 10 institutions, businesses etc. with whom she had various accounts, only 2 have behaved sensitively. They are BT and the local council. The gas, electricity, water and insurance companies are all more concerned about getting their money in. A week after being told of her death, a broadband provider sent a 'welcome' letter to the 'new occupier'. This morning they have sent a bill, addressed to her. The water company have also sent a bill, again addressed to her.
The final insult also occurred today when an insurance company sent a letter to her (using her name) and then expressed sadness 'at her recent loss'. Insensitive oafs. Her bank originally agreed that monies could be used from her account, then three weeks later they have changed their mind. Now we are being chased by the undertaker.
It would appear that nobody dies in this country and firms and organisations simply send out what they think is appropriate when informed of a death, or, more likely ignore it because it is inconvenient.. I am expecting fun and games with people like DVLA and TV licencing and a few others. I should mention that her affairs are being dealt with by a solicitor, but that cuts no ice with these people.
One thing is certain. All these people are going to get the snottiest letter I can devise in the hope that eventually they change their ways. Somehow I am not optimistic. |
