Her full-time to part-time change is a definate qualifier for COBRA. She should have been (or if it's a recent change) will be notified of being able to continue her coverage that way. She will have to pay the whole premium-there will be no employer contribution towards it, but at least she will have coverage.
You might want to check with your state's labor board about the legality of it, but I believe it is the employer's perogative to change her status if her health or their work load is not sufficient to keep her full-time. |

If she was to fight it I'm sure the company could prove and justify
why she was put on part time (not health issues)..and since this recession it would be plausible.
Losing your insurance hurts. I couldn't really give you any legal advice but maybe suggest calling up or finding the labor laws in your city, state or a free consultation lawyer.
Wish you the best.
**EDIT**
I don't know any companies that give health insurance to part time employees. That is why some employers have many part time instead of full time, it's a way to keep their costs down on what they have to provide. |

it is a misdemeanor ( a miner legal break) it is illegal but not bad i would get a lawyer but it could also be that she changed her hrs but that is wrong and not right so look things up and see if it goes against your rights as people |

Yes it is legal. But I question the motives of her company, when they know she has health related issues. That was a dirty move they did to her. Can she get on your insurance? |

Part time work almost never includes benefits such as health insurance, vacation pay etc |

I don't believe so. You should look further into it. |

Yes it is. I work in the HR dept. In most places part-time employees are not eligible for health coverage. When they change status, then their coverage would change also. |

It was the change in status not her health...she might have been better off staying full-time and then applying for medical leave. |

yes unfortunately it is legal, unless her issues were caused by a work related injury. |

Yes it is, most employers do not offer health benefits to part time employees. |

That's not true. If she works less than a certain amount of hours each week companies/insurance plans don't allow and don't have to allow part timers to have insurance. Look at the policy. |
