Is my boyfriend covered on my insurance? I have state farm?
he is 23 and is not listed onthe policy....

Need help with a health insurance question.?
I have been offered a much better job than what I have now in another state (12 hr drive away). My wife is pregnant and due at the end of November. If I take this job she would no longer be covered by our current insurance. The new job insurance wouldn't kick in until the due date. Does anyone know of a company that would cover her? She believes no one will cover her as this is a "pre-existing condition." I would hate to turn down this opportunity. Thanks.

She's right. You would have to buy "cobra" coverage through your current employer, to be sure she had coverage when the new insurance kicked in.

she can always lie everybody else does go to welfare and tell them her husband left her and she doesn't know where he is, she'll get medical,a check and food stamps. When the baby is born and your at your new job she can just tell them that you and her worked things out and that she doesn't need their help anymore.

gomanyes562
You can probably take advantage of COBRA to extend coverage from your current insurance. Ask your HR department.

Depends on the state you are in. In NY we have Pcap which will cover any pregnant woman if they do not have insurance. You can check with your states insurance programs.

When you leave a job though, you are automatically offered Cobra insurance. While it is super expensive, you can choose to use it if you must.

If her employer had more than 20 (I think) employees, and she has been there a year (I think) she should be eligible for "Continuation of Benefits"
The magic word is COBRA - that's the acronym for the enabling legislation. She just says to the Human Resources person, "I'd like to continue my benefits under COBRA." Now, the premiums are going to be, perhaps, a little higher, but it will be worth it to have 1. continuing insurance for the delivery of your baby and 2. what they call "continuity of coverage - that means that under no circumstances can they deny coverage for a "pre-existing condition".

COBRA - do it.

Well usually when you quit or get fired from a job there is a cobra insurance options. Basically you'll pay a whole lot more for it, but atleast she'll be covered. Try to call your benefits and see what would happen. The pre existing condition onlly applies when you don't have any pre existing insurance. I also think that alot of the insurance companies have quit doing the pre existing rules. It was kinda dumb they started that anyway. When I was 8 months pregnant I switched insur companies and I had no problems! Try to call your insurance company for more info!

The 'Continutation of Benefits Reform Act 'of 1986 allows you to keep your current health insurance, for a minimum of 60 days, even if you leave a job.
You will have to pay the full premium for it, but it would be cheaper than getting temporary coverage.

New job and new baby is a lot to take on, but if you are sure, then here is the things you want to consider:
1) if the employer offers cobra (over twenty employees) and she qualifies (is quiting a qualifyinge event? No), that's an option. She would be better off asking for reduced hours, that is a qualifying event.
2) FMLA is probably better. If the employer has more than 50 employees in a relatively close area (75 miles I believe), she can take family leave for twelve weeks and pay for the insurance, and then get COBRA when she doesn't come back (not working the necessary hours to have benefits is a qualiying event).
3) You mau qualify for Medicaid without having to lie. Call the social worker at the hospital you are planning to deliver in. They can help.

The company you currently work at should be offering you COBRA benefits as is federally required. Below is the website for the US Department of Labor, this will give alot of helpful information and even a way to contact them
Hope this helps:)

Federal law bars insurance companies from considering pregnancy a preexisting condition.

I would suggest taking COBRA coverage from your old job.
