Dating gone Confused | No Insurance. Car damaged. Should I call the insurance company? |
OK This is really hurting me because some jerk hit my car in the parking lot ( I don't know when) and when wake up in the morning and see my car it is damaged.
My problem is I don't have insurance to the car and my car registration has expired too. (I rarely use my car because I have a work truck).
I dont know what to do. Should I call the cops? or just forget about it for now and get the insurance upto date and call the insurance people after some days.

No insurance company will cover damage that happened while you were Not insured .
They will want to inspect the car when you take out the policy and see the damage .
As the culprit is gone , a police report would be a futile waste of energy .
Not having it registered and insured has just lost you some $$$$$ .
Try not to do that again .

You should report it to the police just to have a record of it.
Getting insurance and then later reporting it as new damage is insurance fraud, a crime, and just the sort of thing that makes the rest of our insurance rates higher. |

It does not particularly matter. Your insurance company will not pay for damage that occurs when you have no insurance, even if you later get insurance. If you call the police and later learn who hit your car, that person's insurance company (not yours) will pay for the damage. If that person also does not have insurance, you can sue that person. If you never learn who hit your car, then no insurance will pay, because you did not have insurance when the crash happened. |

Calling the police in this case can only get you in trouble, as you are in violation of the law. The only chance you have is to talk with the parking lot attendants to see if they might have seen anything, or attach a sign outside of the lot in the hope that the perpetrator might come clean if he or she is asked to in a nice way. |

If you do not have insurance on your car at the time of the loss then you are out of luck.
If you get insurance on the car - wait a few days and then file a claim for the damage that happened when the car was not insured - that is insurance fraud -it is a crime.
So do not expect to come to this web site and have folks here tell you to commit insurance fraud.
People (like you are considering being) are the reason all of our insurance premiums are so high.
You chose not to have insurance on your car - suck it up - live with the decision you made and pay out of pocket to get your car fixed. |

yes you should call the cops, but chances are they won't do anything about it unless you know who hit your car. This is the whole reason why you should have insurance.
getting insurance after the fact will help you in the future, but you cannot make a claim on an accident that occurred during a time you weren't insured.
It is your own fault that you are too lazy to keep your car legal. |
