Hey Im 22 and dont have dental insurance. Ive had a bad cavity for about 2 years and off and on gives a really intense pain. At times I go a few days without sleeping because as soon as I fall asleep Im woken up by the pain and have to run it under cold water. Im looking to have an extraction. Its the last tooth on the top right side and has a large hole in it so its not a full tooth. I dont have insurance and dont have the money to get insurance. I was kicked out and have a lot of bills and work as a waiter so I dont have a large income. Where on Long Island NY can I find a place to extract the tooth at a cheap price? Maybe a dental school or something. Any information would help. Oh and when it starts to hurt it usually bleeds(swelling gums into the sharp edge of the tooth) If your just going to say go to an emergency vet and make payment plans please dont post because Im already 3 grand in debt and dont want anymore. Thank in advance

The good news is, if they are just PULLING the tooth it's only about $60. The bad news is that they will probably want to xray it and that is where the expense comes into play. Or if the tooth crumbles when they try to extract it and they have to dig around for the pieces. You might try Stony Brook College on LI. They have a dental school. As for the pain, try a moist heating pad. Warmth is better than cold on a cavity!! Also, buy some regular Bayer Aspirin and put it directly on the tooth. As it dissolves it should help with the pain.Good luck. Let me know what happens. |

Oh, dear. I'm sooo sorry that you are suffering so much. You must do something, and I hope that someone in your area can help you. Your idea of a dental school is good. You might consider calling some dentists, tell them your problem, and ask if they can give you advice (dental schools or free or reduced dental help.). Don't give up if you don't get help from the first call. There is surely a caring and sympathetic person who can direct you to help. I hear your pain about your debt, but please...if you can't find help you can afford...don't put your health at risk. No debt is good, but if you get the tooth pulled, you will feel so much better and will be able to work easier. |

I'm in the same boat. Insurance is too expensive and office visits are just as bad. In the meantime, you can buy topical medicine to rub on the site to numb it (ask a pharmacist what it's called because I can't remember the name of it, I'm sorry) Advil should help, too.

I would imagine the only option you have is to go to the emergency room at the hospital, and paywhatever you can afford each month until it is paid. You should not be stressing yourself so much. Tell them you would like to apply for assistance with the costs at the hospital. Bring paystubs with you. You say you don't make that much anyway. They will not deny you if you are hurting. Go get the tooth out. Stop torturing yourself. |
