mike lewis | No really what do you think about adding 5 cents per gallon to only pay for health insurance.? |
This is not socialism Pay as you go think about your answer first. No dumb answers please. Think about it.... your paying for insurance at the pump Instead of paying 20% for claims... The feds charge you 18.4 cents a gallon now Or leave it the same ? getting nowhere either it works or doesn`t what we got now don`t work over 45 million not insured 10 years the figure doubles. No whiners pay at the pump or take out of your check your going to pay anyway. Only positive answers. Yea I know the gas prices are high lets not get into that crap. your welcome to your opinion. The people running for office do not say what they will do. Because they aren't going to do anything. Its up to the people to come up with the fix. What is it........ ??????? Think Positive yea yea yea do you pick other peoples trash up well you should its our planet get it done |

I think it is a bad idea. So people in large cities who only take cabs and the subway system get free health care. Taxicab drivers, UPS and Fed Ex have to support the rest of the country.
It won't work. |

I think that's a good idea - it raises the price of gas, encouraging conservation, and still let's you raise money for health coverage. The problem is that you can't trust the idiots in DC to dedicate it to health coverage.
On a side note, I keep wondering whether we could have fixed our abysmal health care system with all of the money we've spent in Iraq. What an idiot we have in office! Hundreds of Billions down the drain (not to mention the lives lost). |

Do you like the efficiency and professionalism that you find at the the DMV? How about the Post Office? The IRS?
Wake up! Public Health Care will be just like these if not worse.
What does Gasoline have to do with Health care?
I walk to my office every morning and use less than 5 gallons of gas a week. Does that mean I get healthcare for $1 a month while everyone else pays my bills?
What makes you think that 5 cents a gallon will pay for everyone's healthcare? |

Why not add 5 cents to the price of a hamburger, 10 cents to the price of a pack of smokes and 25 cents to the price of a birth control pill? Let's add a dime to the price of flashlight batteries. Lets add 12 cents to the price of a Snickers bar. Let's add one dollar to your monthly phone bill. Let's add $3 to your oil change.
Point: When does it stop? |

Very bad idea.
If I am in good health, take care of myself but drive a lot, I will pay a lot for this 'universal health insurance.' If I am in very poor health and don't drive, my health care is free. Why should I take care of myself if I don't have to pay for health care?
We should use the tax code to ENCOURAGE desired behaviors.
A good fix is to have everyone pay for their own health care and own health insurance.
I would (and do) buy my own health insurance to cover the catastrophic events (hospital stays, surgeries etc) and I take good care of myself (eat well, no smoking) so that I won't become ill and need medical care. I demonstrate this to the insurance company and they give me low rates.
Contrast this to someone who doesn't care for his/her health. The insurance company will predict that that person will have a lot of claims and thus charge higher rates. Perhaps those higher rates will encourage this person to take up better lifestyle habits.
Free capitalism! Yeah baby! |

It doesn't work. Gas is the second highest taxed commodity we have, and EVERY time it comes up for vote, we here "oh, just an extra $.03 for street and road repair" so the voters pass it, and THEN the policiticians spend it on whatever they want.
I think that whenever there's something that people don't PAY for themselves, they don't respect it or use it the way it was intended - they ABUSE it. Including health care. Want an example? Government housing.
The AVERAGE tax on gasoline is about $.75 a gallon, because the feds aren't the ONLY ones who tax it, ya know?? Anyway, we have CIGARETTE taxes ($2 a pack, here in Texas) that were supposedly going to pay health insurance costs. And the politicians, I'm sure, are spending it elsewhere.
The more you let government take over . . . the less you get for your money. You want the people to come up with the fix? Go back to a "cash system" for maintenance stuff, turn away non-emergency situations from emergency rooms, and make ALL health policies have a $2,000 deductible, and cover major medical situations only. THEN make the HSA available to EVERYONE.
When you pay for a service with your OWN money, you shop more carefully - and DON'T go to the doctor to have every splinter removed. When you DON'T pay for it, you waste everyone else's money. |
