Cheap insurance is cheap because they don't pay out very often. That's how they are able to keep their costs down.
In my experience, cheap insurance is a false economy. Carefully balancing risk and premiums is a difficult things, but the companies that do it the best are rarely the cheapest. it really does pay to check out the small print about your cover before signing and speak to a financial adviser about their claims adjusters. Very often these low premiums are too good to be true.
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. |

If you're having claims issues with your insurance company, don't settle for the "well, they were cheap, that's why they're not paying out." No, that's called breach of contract.
It's a fact that most insurance companies will make you wait until the very last possible minute to pay out on your claim until you're so desperate you're willing to settle for anything, and then they will offer you a mere 10% of what you're actually owed. That's when you call a public adjuster, and then the public adjuster will go rip the insurance company's face off and get you what you deserve.
I recently learned about this very issue, and all I can say is I wish I had known about this industry 15 years ago. I hired a group called Charles R. Tutwiler and Associates, Inc. last year, based on dozens and dozens and dozens of testimonials from people who couldn't stop gushing about all the extra money they had gotten, some people 14 times more than the insurance company initially offered.
My own friend had severe damage from Hurricane Charley. Her homeowner's insurance company sent out "their" adjuster, who conveniently told her her damage was only $2900 and her deductable was $3000. She hired Tutwiler and Associates who got her insurance company to not only fork over all the money that they owed her for the damage to her property, but they also had to pay her for the two weeks she lived in a hotel, two weeks she had to eat out, and all the meat and groceries she lost when her electricy went out due to the storm.
If you've ever suffered any kind of property loss, call or write them. It seems that they live to stick it to the insurance companies on their clients' behalf.

Not 100% sure about house insurance but I know they are in the process of moving a significant amount of the motor insurance claim handling (not just call centres) to bangalore - so if its bad now its going to get worse |
