Billionaires, like Bill Gates, really don't have much cash sitting around. Almost all of it is in stock, bonds, real estate, etc. Yes, they can write a check for just about any amount, but it is not drawn upon a bank but rather against a stock broker account. When such a check comes in the broker sells enough (stock and/or bonds) to cover the check. |

FDIC insurance has gone way up from 100k to 250k. I still have to spread my money around between different banks but is much eaiser now that the FDIC amount has gone up. |
