Well, it's likely that they would have to give the police some time to find the car before they just cut you a check. It's possible that the car might be found in a matter of days, and if it isn't stripped or totalled, there is no need to cut a check for anything.

Best is to get the answer from the insurance company- they are the only ones who really know. How about getting one of your parents to rent the car, and you drive theirs if you can't rent one yourself?

Usually it's pretty darned close to 30 days. They'll want to give it several weeks to see if the police find the car. Most of the time, the car is either found within three weeks, or never found.

Meanwhile, if you have theft coverage on your car, the standard auto policy does provide rental coverage AFTER the car is missing for 48 hours, but like you said, at your age it's pretty difficult to get a rental. OTOH, your father could rent the car, and list you as an operator. It will cost MUCHO MUCHO, but at least it's a rental. Best yet, your father could rent the car, and you can drive HIS car while he drives the rental.

Hey I was trying to find out a similar question, and I found out that Budget car rentals makes exceptions with certain insurance companies, like they will rent you a car at the age of 18 if you are covered under certain insurance companies. You should check with Nationwide and see if they know of any car rentals that support this idea. And sorry, I looked and I didn't see Nationwide on their list. One more thing, they also make exceptions for companies that you work for, and also if you work for the government.

It generally takes about 7 to 10 days depending on whether your insurance company 1.) has all the info it needs and 2.) accepts the claim right away. If the insurance company disptues that the car was actually stolen, it could take months.

I know in Pennsylvania there are some rental companies that will rent cars to people under 25 and even as young as 18. Your adjuster should be able to provide you with how much they will provide for a rental car until a settlement is reached.
