Plastic surgery covered by insurance?
I want to get a nose job. Is there any way insurance will cover it?

Only if it is medically necessary, as in reconstructive surgery. Like if your face got smashed in, and they had to reconstruct your nose, then it would be covered. Otherwise, you're out of luck.

**EDIT** BTW, having surgery to correct a deviated septum usually doesn't change the appearance of your nose (or enough to tell) unless it is VERY severe.

Doubt it, depends on your plan.

Doubt it. Medical insurance is for needed treatment, not elective surgery. The only way insurance would pay for a nose job is if you had a deviated septum and needed it fixed (and then, it wouldn't pay to alter the appearance) or if you had a disfigured broken nose.

Only if you need a nose job due to farm equipment having mangled your nose.....................

It's a cash on the barrel business.

usually insurance will only consider covering any cosmetic surgery if it is needed because of othere medical or health conditions. Like if you have broken your nose and it healed akwardly, etc.
Another example would be people who get breast reductions due to back problems, or other types of reconstructions of body parts.

Your insurance company should have a specific list of medical criteria that would need to be met for them to cover rhinoplasty (a nose job).

Some insurers have their medical policies listed right on their website. Here's an example of one insurer's critera for a rhinoplasty: http://www.medmutual.com/provider/MedPolicies/PDF/200509.pdf

If your insurer doesn't have their criteria on their website, they should at least be able to provide the info to you or your physician. You should also be aware that you'll need prior approval from your insurer to have the surgery covered too, so be prepared for you and your physician to demonstrate that you meet the critieria in advance to your insurer.

If you don't meet your insurer's medical criteria for coverage, then the surgery won't be covered.

You should definitely look into providers with
MySimpleCard. Members save significant amounts on
plastic surgery with state licensed practitioners.
Make sure surgeon you want is on the plan. If he is not

only if you have a deviated septum, which it not visible and doesnt medicaly affect you, but for some reason you are covered by insurance.
i paid for my nose job, cos the waiting list for paid one was long.
seriously check with doctor for deviated septum, its covered.

Daft One
Plastic surgery will be covered by insurance if it will help a health need.

Here is an example: A woman has huge breasts. The breasts make her have a bad spine. The breasts pull her spine out of joint and make her have ruptured disks in her spine, bad posture, constant pain and suffering. Then YES, insurance WILL cover the cost of the breast reduction surgery.

Do you have a deviated septum? Does your nose cause you pain? Suffering? Discomfort?

Would your quality of life be better if you had a different nose?

Good luck on getting your insurance to pay for the rinoplasty, hun.

Cheers

No. Unless it is deemed, "medically necessary", i.e., you have a severe deviated septum and you cannot breathe correctly becuase of it.

Only if your nose gets disfigured in an accident. They cover restorative stuff, not cosmetic stuff.

Cosmetic surgery is generally not covered unless it has to do with an accident or medical condition (breast reconstruction due to cancer) with fully insured group health plans. I also doubt that there are any large companies that are self-insured that would offer that coverage.

If they offered cosmetic surgeries it would drive the rates even higher than they are currently.

netsurfer89
It depends on your case. If you really have a serious problem or defect like you got burned all over the body the insurance will cover the expenses. Some people just want to look more beautiful so they opt for plastic surgery. In this case insurance would not cover any expenses. As far in your case I am not sure IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU CALL YOU INSURANCE PROVIDER!!
