You best bet is to get married.

If you and your fiance marry then they have to add you to the group policy at his work- he gets to change his options at marriage, divorce or loss of job. For example, I was eligible to get onto my husband's policy when I quit MY job.

The baby will be automatically eligible for coverage when he or she is born.

Have a happy and healthy 9 months!

In Arizona, yes, you'd have to be married unless his company is offering some sort of plan to cover domestic partners.

He can add the baby to his policy as soon as he/she is born. You won't be covered though. Tell him to talk to someone in his HR department and make sure though.

it depends on the company he works for. i have seen some that would cover a same sex lover but not a male to female relationship. if you are pregnant more than likely you can get medicaid and it will only cover the prgnancy.

Yeah more than likely you would have to be married and they won't accept you now anyway b/c you are pregnant. If you are looking for supplemental health coverage then visit http://mybenefitplan.info

I am not sure what State you are in, but in Illinois pregnancy can not be considered a pre-exisitng condition. Your fiancee would need to contact his union benefits rep and check on the guidelines. Most companies are allowing 'life parnters' to be added to the health insurance. Its a trend that I have seen for the past 7 years. The has been a influx of individuals that have mates that are living with them but are not married. In addition to other things. I have been in the insurance industry for years. So the fact that you are not married may not carry any weight. It just depends on the guidelines of the insurance company. He should actually just contact his insurance company directly prior to going to the union rep. The insurance company would be able to direct them accordingly and advise them of all the guidelines.
Good Luck....

Don't think there is any insurance company around that will insure you after you are already pregnant. It would be like buying fire insurance after the house is already burning.

It's up to the employer. MOST employers require you to be married in order to add you. A very few large employers will allow a domestic partner to be added.

He needs to check with his employer. Likely, if the pregnancy has been pre-diagnosed, they're going to exclude coverage for it anyway as a pre-existing condition.

LittleItalianInMe
Yes you must be married in order to be included on his health insurance. Only problem is that if he has a PPO they won't cover the pregnancy since it's considered to be a "pre-existing condition." Your best bet is to sign onto an HMO plan. If none of that works you could contact your local Planned Parenthood or Family Planning. They offer affordable prenatal care. Or even ask the hosptial if they have any programs that will let you pay as you go. Also some hospitals offer MSI coverage. It's basically health insurance for people who make under a certain amount of money, and the good thing is that the hospital pays for everything.
