Professional Indemnity Insurance?
Can anybody tell me the difference between Professional Indemnity Insurance and Liability Insurance, I am a business who goes into offices to work and I have Liability Insurance and I've been asked to produce my Professional Indemnity Insurance certificate. Are they the same?

In a nut shell no they are not.

Professional indemnity insurance will cover your business in the event that a third party claims to have suffered a loss as a result of professional negligence from advice or a service provided by you/your company. The difference between the two is that public liability insurance will cover you if someone is accidentally injured by you or your business i.e. a physical loss. It will also cover you if you damage third party property while on business. The cover normally includes legal fees and expenses which may result from a claim by a third party.

It is important to note that if you do require professional indemnity insurance you must be aware that you need to be covered at the time of the event and when the claim is made. The main reason for this is that there can be a long delay between the actual event and a any subsequent claim. If you were to cancel your policy i.e. if you were to cease trading you may need to arrange "run-off" cover for a period of time afterwards.

The Public Liability Insurance would be based on activities that would affect 3rd parties through physical injuries or property damage

The PII covers three types
1) a civil liability which is breaking the agreement, slander and libel

2) Breach of Duty which covers your neglect, and errors and omissions

3) Negligent act errors and omission working with the clients equipment-products carrying out your policyholders business

Further to previous answers:
Public Liability cover is; Loss or injury caused to third parties. So painters, plumbers, builders who, by their negligence, cause damage to property or injury to members of the public will be covered. For want of a better term "Tradesman's Liability"
Professional indemnity cover is for acts or omission that cause FINANCIAL damage to clients and clients only. Very rarely this is extended to others. It covers financial loss and is the sort of thing architects, accountants, legal professionals, insurance professionals etc would have.

There are several different business liability insurance products and Professional Indemnity insurance is one of them.

Professional Indemnity Insurance covers your business against compensation claimed by a client if you have made mistakes, or are found to have been negligent in some or all of the services that you provide for them. Professional Indemnity Insurance will also cover any legal costs.

Other liability insurance products include Employers Liability, Public Liability, Product Liability, Directors & Officers insurance, Landlord insurance and Pollution insurance.

You don't say what your business is but, generally speaking, professional liability (professional indemnity) insurance covers bodily injury, property damage, or economic losses arising out of your negligent performance of professional services. In other words, your client could be directly damaged financially due to your negligent services and could sue you to pay for the damages. Or, a third party could be injured and sue your client who could then turn around and sue you. General liability (public liability) covers bodily injury and property damage you cause for reasons other than your actual services. Silly examples that might make the point: clearer: If you drop a banana peel at your client's office and someone slips and falls, your general liability would cover that (this bodily injury claim was not caused by your professional services). Or, you could be at a client's office and break a window accidentally (this property damage claim was not caused by your professional servcies). Lastly, professional liability does not cover "breach of contract" as another answerer suggests.
