Mandy | Question about health insurance.? |
I have a friend who has alot of money, and he does not have health insurance. he was in a wreck recently and the surgery is costing him $32,000. is there a way he could get some kind of insurance or a way that they wouldnt charge him so much? |

No, it's too late. And the proper way to phrase it is, he HAD a lot of money.
He's really lucky this lesson is only costin ghim $32,000. It could have been ten times as much.
Of course, he should NOW buy health insurance to cover if something like this happens again. But it won't cover this accident. |

Insurance no, he may very likely be able to negotiate a smaller payment by paying cash. This is an excellent example of why insurance is essential. |

If he has a lot of money, shouldn't he have bought insurance beforehand? Couldn't he pay the bill with his money?
Also, unless he skipped buying auto insurance, there's usually coverage available under "PIP" or "Med-Pay" on any personal auto policy.
It's also possible to negotiate some of that bill with the hospital.
But perhaps in the future your friend should do the responsible thing and buy coverage (it does cost money). Why should working people pay for a wealthy man's health care? Seems very unfair (and unethical) to me. If my house burnt down, do you think I could get homeowner's coverage after the fire department came? Or life insurance, after I died?
Insurance costs money - because it can save you from disaster. But you have to pay for it, like you pay for food, heat, and housing. |

you definitely cannot insured sumthing that already happen.
take it a hard learning experience and get insured after he recovered.
Do consider a personal accident policy and as well hospital n medical benefits |

Have you considered medical treatment and surgical help for this in India? My cousin got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare in India.
She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as all types of medical treatment and surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your medical treatment and surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps. |

To repeat what was already said, after the accident or illness it is too late as far as the price is concerned. I do sell health insurance and I can get you, him, or anyone else that you may know who may need insurance. It wont cover what he is currently going through BUT in case something happens in the future, he is insured beforehand. That will save him on incurring any future cost. I hope this is helpful. If you want info or have anymore questions, just reply to this. |

You can get on state Medicaid if you accumualte a large amount of medical expenses. It is retroactive. Males are discriminated against by Medicaid though. Private insurance is impossible to get for retroactive coverage that you describe. If someone becomes disabled for a prolonged time and it is permanent, they may be able to get SS Disability and subsequently Medicare, which may be retroactive. This is often problemmatic also though. Their rules are irrational and inconsistent.
Lastly, NEGOTIATE WITH THE HOSPITAL for paying off the bill. Their charge schedule is flexible. |
