Carimel | Question about meeting my medical deductible? |
My son has a Dr. Appt today and since it's the beginning of the year we have to meet his deductible again. Does this mean that when I go to the Dr today, I will have to pay them the full amount of his visit TODAY? Or do I tell them to send it to the insurance company so that the insurance company can start keeping track of what's going to be applied to the deductible? |

You hand them your card and they bill the insurance company FIRST. NEVER pay a doctor until you've received your explanation of benefits back and you compare it to the bill they send. If they match, pay it.
The doctor's office may ask for a copay today and that's ok to pay because you'll deduct that amount from the bill.
(of course if you just have copays then you may not owe anything else) |

depends on your plan. some have last quarter carryover, which means if you had money applied to the deductible in the last three months of the prior year it is applied to the current years amount. have them bill the insurance first. the only time to pay up front is with a co pay. |

Likely, yes you will have to pay the doctor today. Then you can send in to the insurance, so they can also track the deductible. |

Depends on your coverage. If your policy provides for co-pays, you'll only have to pay that amount (usually $10-50) for the doctor's visit. This amount is not applied to the deductible. Any lab work done may cost you and be applied to the deductible.
Any co-pay schedule should be stated on your insurance id card. |
