If you do not have insurance I would call 211 on your phone and see if there is a clinic by your house. I currently don't have insurance and I am waiting to get onto a plan. I would highly suggest that you don't count on what we say. It depends on where you live and the dynamics. It could cost someone 1,000 for an emergency visit in Michigan however someone 2,500 or more in Beverly Hills.

Its amazing that we pay so much in insurance yet we are the country with the sickest and we don't help our own kind. I am getting married so I am lucky but my heart goes out to all the people who don't have insurance. It makes me mad that we give so much to other countries yet we can't help our own country and uninsured people.

A little off topic, but my boyfriend (who is not insured) has managed to rack up $100,00 (or more) in hospital bills as a result of a gallbladder surgery, that resulted in :C-Diff colitis, Gastroenteritis, a hernia, about 10 CT Scans, a colonoscopy, an endoscopy, and several hospital stays...It's been a tough year. Something relatively common like vomiting and severe stomach pain (in the beginning) has left him in $100,000 in debt...good luck!

Broke my arm

Ended up paying around 1800 when it was all said and done. Really sucked. I was in college, and inbetween insurance companies at the time.

2nd degree burns on abdomen and feet. I had a mishap while draining 5 qts. of boiling spaghetti water. I waited until the next day to go to an urgent care because the ER costs too much for people without insurance. I basically spent the night in the bathtub...felt myself slipping in and out...almost going into shock. Going to the ER would have meant I couldn't pay rent or buy food that month.

The urgent care was about 1/3 of the cost.

Office Visit: $90 (because the Dr. felt bad for me, otherwise it would have been $120)

Wound cleaning and dressing $30

Samples of burn cream and bandages $0 (once again, being nice)

The US needs a better healthcare system! A friend of mine brags that she uses her insurance to pay for massages and spa time...it's terrible.

Good luck to you!

My little daughter was having seizures. I rushed her via ambulance to the hospital. They asked me how much $$ I had in my pocket. Nothing, since it is 8.00 a.m. and I was not expecting to be at the ER. They signed her up with emergency medicaid and she was totally covered. I got bills for close to $42,000. I sent the bills to the Medicaid office and I never heard another word about it. I felt really bad because Medicaid is paid for by tax dollars - American version of socialized medicine. The doctor told me, You pay taxes, right? Of course. A lot of taxes. Then you should not feel bad about taxpayer dollars - your dollars have already paid for it.

You can go to the hospital they will have you fill out several forms and you will be billed for any services and medications they use or prescribe. I knew someone who broke their arm went to emergency, lied on all the paperwork got free medical and prescriptions, and never recieved a bill and they never asked for id.
