Animal Rights | Quick question about RENTERS INSURANCE? |
My fiance and i are renting out a house starting Feb. 1st.
After a year we have an option to buy the house.
Anyways, when we were looking at the house she said her dad wants us to get renters insurance before we move in.
I'm guessing because of the fireplace, attic, etc.
Do i need to get any info from her before i sign up for insurance?
Where do i go to get this?
ANY sort of info would be great. We're new to renters insurance. We live in an apartment complex right now with NO insurance. Additional Details Well, i just turned 21 and have only been living on my own for 2 years. Now we're moving in a house and i'm just now starting to get my adult life situated. Should i just call around? I tried State Farm online and they wanted to year the house was built, etc. and i don't have that info on me. |

Great answers and you should definitely shop around but I've given you a link below for Geico. It's affordable and you can get a quote. Shop around to find the one to meet your needs, and it's renters insurance - you don't need the home owners information to get it! |

Renters insurance covers you for loss of contents and insures you for liability if you cause damage to the structure through error or ommission and covers others for being hurt through your negligence.
You are crazy NOT to have this insurance, especially if you are in an apartment where your goods can be ruined by a fire caused in another suite, even smoke from a fire, will ruin everything you own |

Always have renters insurance....even in your apartment now....You'll just need basic information about the house...address, type of roof, distance from a fire/police station etc. Most of it you should be able to answer. It would probably be best to have the homeowner present when you're on the phone (or be at the residence). That way if they ask something you don't know, you can get the answer. |

This is a normal expectation of Landlords in that they have insurance but it will not cover your contents. You can get a renter's policy from any insurance agency and it will cover your personal belongings if something happens. Check with any local insurance agency and then compare prices and policies that best fit your needs. You should only need the address of the property. If you have not had insurance your personal items have been at risk and would not have been recovered if something happened. Good Luck! |

STart with the guy that sells your car insurance. REnters insurance is easy, and cheap, and if you buy it from the same company as your car insurance, the discount on the car insurance usually means you don't pay extra for the renters insurance. |

Like mbrcatz said, ask your agent who you have car insurance through first, because you would probably get a discount for having multiple policies through them (most agencies do that). You can also call around to different brokers for quotes if you like, but rates for renter's insurance do not vary a lot from agency to agency. |
